The Federal Communications Commission has killed its long, drawn out consideration of cell phones on passenger airplanes by deciding against allowing their use.

But the commission didn't close the door on in-flight Internet access, and the 300-member Wi-Fi Alliance believes the wireless vacuum on planes will soon be filled by wireless data-access technology.

I am with the FCC on this. People are boorish fools, by and large, and it is hellish to be stuck listening to one side of some moron's inane conversation.

That's on the ground. I can't imagine having to do it in the air.

in case of emergency there should be a cellphone on board but i am absolutely against dumbasses being bored, calling their relatives or friends talking about some stupid stuff

I read the results of a study not too long ago and it said that 25% of all airline passengers forget to turn off their phone during the flight. Why don't we see many more crashes if that is true? Just food for thought...

cellphones should be prohitted in a lot of public places, just like smoking. Those shits are annoying as hell-

only thing more annoying then people talking about BS on the cellphone for ages are people (mostly kids) testing new ringtones or hearing music through the shitty speakers in public places, trains, planes, stores etc.

I would dread being stuck on a flight listening to some loud talking asshat pretending that he has all kinds of busines deals going on and is fucking 10 women every weekend.

It's bad enough being stuck in a floating box with no leg room, odors and terrible food.

i don't turn mine off when we fly, but i don't really listen for it either. i have never got a call in the air, but have missed calls while boarding etc that would have not been in the missed calls if the phone was off

I'm glad they made them illegal. Now maybe we can get the NTSB to make them illegal in cars, that would rock.

fuckers driving around yakking on thier phones and driving like they are drunk. If its that fucking important to talk on the phone, pull over somewhere and handle your business.

Can a cell even contact a tower at that altitude? I thought planes fly too high to use a cellular phone.

cell phone use DOES NOT affect the onboard navigation system of the airplane(the crap they tell you before you take off)

But yea, if you leave ur cellphone on during flight the plane wont crash...
