How do you FOCUS?

I have online ADD... bad. I am clicking between 500 windows on 3 machines and I get little to nothing done every day. I lose interest in a task very quickly. How do you organize your tasks? Todo lists? Little scraps of paper? Postits? How do you organize thoughts and todos?

candyflip 04-04-2007 12:53 PM

I'm the same way and only one things puts my mind in check when it gets bad:

using a camera, typically you push the shutter release half way down which will activate the lens AF system and will focus on the item in the designated cross hair in the viewfinder.

Same here. My problem is ill spend a few hours not really doing anything, then walk away and feel shitty for just wasting that time.

Recently, Ive been putting things down on paper (im a tech geek, but old school post-its work best, esp when they are posted to your monitor). Working online is a HUGE distraction, i dont think me and you are the only one. you just have to set your priorities... is browsing the web or posting on gfy more important than submitting a gallery or working on a site?

personally what I do is close all the windows except for what i am working on. helps a little to not see whats new on the gfy homefront, or start to browse around. best of luck

And I still make twice what you do. That must really hurt the ego. Unless your saturn makes you feel THAT good inside?

JenniDahling 04-04-2007 01:26 PM

Brad, I know your pain! I tried post its, but they get lost, always great in a pinch for reminders on the bathroom mirror and such. I have a desk calendar pad under my keyboard full of scribbles, but I've been using the calendar boxes so that helps. Otherwise, THC is the best for ADD!!!

Aww... it hurts that I didn't splurge in a car that I don't need, so that I can have more to put towards my child and his future huh? Makes me wonder what you think about Steve Lightspeed driving around in a mini van.

Keep pretending you have any insight what so ever into my income though. Making up stuff makes you sound very sane. :1orglaugh

I struck a nerve, ouch. It has nothing to do with being sane.

Go lick someone's balls Stewie. Lord knows someone may have wiped poorly and there could be some feces to lap up. And never know, when you fuck up at your current company you may have a place as their next lapdog.

I splurged on 2 cars I don't need and it feels great. I still have plenty to pay for a childs future and I am 22.

But keep trying to spin spin spin buddy I am sure you can feel good somehow and convince yourself I am "insane".

Back to the stuff that matters - how do you organize?

Struck a nerver? Hardly, you're the one who retaliated to "shocking" with an attack on my income and car. :1orglaugh

But hey, think what you want. And you can stop asking for an icq authorization. Doctors will listen to you cry about getting nothing done and fantasizing about other's incomes.

Not me. I have no trouble focusing :glugglug

AliGbone 04-04-2007 01:40 PM

i twist me nipples real tight up like

TDF 04-04-2007 01:41 PM

smoke crack..works for me!

BlackCrayon 04-04-2007 01:43 PM

i find it hard to stay motivated when the money rolls in regardless but my motivation is more money. also find myself getting more done now that i don't smoke pot every day. a schedule can help.

10am=12pm - do this
12pm-2pm - do that

but it really depends on what your day to day tasks require.
I have hundreds of domains i need to develop sites for but it seems like such a large task, not to mention the sites i have up already that need makeovers, i just end up doing nothing about it.

The only thing you'd be focusing on then is getting more crack :1orglaugh

I do better when the night before I write down a list of things to do the next day. If I don't make a list I sit here going wtf should I work on now when there is plenty of work to be done.

Try fighting on the internet with someone, that'll get you somewhere ;-)

AdultInnovate 04-04-2007 02:23 PM

The best thing to do is to train your focus in a longer period. Try holding your focus for 48 hours untill you crash an go to sleep to jump up again in the morning to continue.

I've managed to train my focus in such way that I was able to continue making 18+ hour days for over 8 months straight. The times that I did lost my focus during the day (or 48 hours) were experienced as bridge periods (1-2 hours) to the next period in which maximum focus and speed where available again.

Untill 2 months ago, I usually worked 48 hours in a row twice per week, but after reading some scientific research on the effects of jetlag and the importance of biorithm to the body I am currently working on a strict schedule and 8 hours sleep per day and started professional fitness to keep my body in shape (7 times per week).

Something that might help however (for the ones that already are able to focus 100%) is the supplement Chlorella, an algae that will boost your energy and ability to focus. It really works very well.

A fight requires a worthy opponent. Why fight someone who can't win?

Replied to your email btw

Couldn't work without it, especially while writing or doing anything semi-creative but monotonous.

This has always been a problem for me. I tried finding software to help organize everything, but ended up just having our programmer code something custom. It manages contacts and tasks for the whole company.

CherryLipsRosa 04-04-2007 03:07 PM

Just put mini goals that you want to get done that day. Take small breaks , they help especially when you just don't feel like working..

jeffrey 04-04-2007 03:10 PM

20mg Dexedrine works for me :)
