Domain With Typeins

There is a domain I've wanted for a while and I contacted te guy about buying it from him.... I offered him something stupid to see how he'd react...... Anyways this is his theory

since it gets a whole 50 typeins a day, then it costs $7 USD a typein, so asking price is 350 USD

what do you think about this theory?

Not a very good theory, in my opinion. It could have some merit but I guess I'd pay whatever I thought it's worth. If it's worth $350 to you then buy it up :-)

I've got type-in domains but rather than price them by the # of type-ins I price them by what I'd be willing to let 'em go for.

true enough...... this guy isnt all in the head, he turned a perfect porn domain name into a bible site, 350 is probably worth the emails I get sent after I change it :)

Thats a really dumb model. The most common model for pricing type-in domains is to value each type-in at $0.02 (maximum) based on one years traffic only. That way if you keep it beyond 1 yr the price per type-in gets progressively less.

So 50 type-ins would be 18250 for a year (50 x 365).
18250 type-ins multiplied by $0.02 = $365

Yep based on that I think $350 is reasonable and he will get that (assuming its targetted adult traffic). Ive sold well over half my type-in domains and the ones with adult type-in value only are priced at less than $0.015 per type-in. If I had the time to wait around i would have charged a much higher rate.

Can somebody explain to me what a type-in domain is?

Am I missing something? Your model and his model are the same. He is just simplifying it.

all that effort to work out his model was your rounded to the nearest big number :)

a type-in domain is exactly that..

a domain name that is typed in the web browser.. rather than using a search engine or a banner or a text link.

like i want to see a 69 i type in www.69.com for example
