What does your house smell like?

I am almost afraid to ask most of you. I like to keep the house in various scents of Vanillas. What do you like your house to smell like ?

Mike Semen 04-02-2007 03:04 AM

Different things at different times. Mostly coffee and different kinds of cooking meat. :)

I hate vanilla smells, and most of those that women like. I prefer to keep the windows open. Strong coffee normally permeates throughout our house, and fresh bread. Bread makers for the win FTW!

I live in London and right over a roundabout. It I open my windows in the hopes of 'fresh air' all I am going to get is the smell of car fumes. I don't like flowery smells so that is why I stick to things like vanillas.

Though I do use the breadmaker from time to time and I agree that smells great.

notabook 04-02-2007 05:09 AM

You become desensitized to the smells of your house, after a while you just won’t smell anything… good OR bad. For example, I had no idea that my house smelled like "dead hooker" until a friend told me. I had completely forgotten that I hid her dismembered body in a garbage bag behind the fridge. Boy did I ever have a red face!

I hate it when that happens. :winkwink:

When my house smells like something, i open the windows until it's gone. If that doesn't work, it's time clean the home.

I got out of London a long time ago - no fresh air - I wonder if that's why.

Where abouts are you - pls don't tell me near Peckham somewhere :Oh crap

Lots of nice parks in London at least. Suggest you skip country though :thumbsup

PurrrsianPussyKat 04-02-2007 05:41 AM

I use a ton of air freshener.. but I figure my house smells like cats and basset hound. lol

Me too!! I can't stand it, especially in perfumes.

My house either smells like yesterday's dinner (i hate that) or sandal wood. All mixed with a little cat breath.

I don't like rosewood either...actually if somebody puts on a rosewood candle or something my throat closes up.

Cherry. Candles, Plugins and Renuzit.

Neiman Ranch bacon.

Only cos it's breakfast time.

Seriously tho, I've been looking at real estate recently and some places are still occupied. I can't help but wonder...do people KNOW when their houses smell like shit?

There are sheets you can put next to your air filter for an HVAC but they smell almost as bad as the dog :)

I cover my house in smelly shit - Lampeberger, Wallflowers from Bath and Body Works, for floor outlets (living in a log home is sometimes tricky) the old jell inserts for electrical fresheners, and then usually I'll spray some Fabreeze and No Vacuum carpet shit for pets around the house too.

CDSmith 04-02-2007 10:01 AM

I'll hit the house with a barrage of fresheners whenever company's coming over -- carpet foams, fabreeze, "pet fresh" etc..., but other than that it's whatever's cooking, coffee, and dog.

I like a lived-in feel at home.

Furious_Female 04-02-2007 10:08 AM

Usually neutral air... nothing.

Sometimes it smells like dryer sheets/laundry detergent all day. Other times it smells like food from cooking or baking all day. I usually don't notice any specific scents. I can't stand air fresheners and scented candles. I don't like to mask the air. People can't believe we have 7 cats. An open window here and there does wonders :thumbsup

i buy the air fresheners from bath and body works and the glades ones. i switch back and forth because you get immune to them.

aimeesweet 04-02-2007 10:17 AM

I love to air the house out now that the weather has warmed up... but for scented candles and such I usually pick vanilla based scents that make it smell like there is something baking.

Right now it smells like roses as I just picked a big bunch from my garden.
