is posting other sites' RSS feeds on your site a theft???

I'd say 0.00001% of the sites have some TOS on how their feeds can be used

so is grabbing content (via RSS feeds) actually a theft even though you provide a link to the source? or is it gray area? anybody know?

baddog 03-31-2007 03:27 AM

it is not theft. We would not be putting out RSS feeds if we did not want people using them

Antonio 03-31-2007 03:37 AM

hm, yeah, but I think 90% of the sites are actually prioviding their feeds for surfers to read them in their readers not for webmasters to grab their content and use it as they please???

"Web syndication is a form of syndication in which a section of a website is made available for other sites to use....."

I hope you're right coz that'll make me really rich (just give me 5 minutes or so)

My biggest problem with it is that a lot of the people that use my feeds change my affiliate link in the posts.. That is stealing!

well, there's no doubt about that

what made me ask the question is that I've seen many feeds that provide whole articles without any ads in them but I guess those are people that have no clue what they're doing

the smarter ones either "embed" their sponsor links in the feed or provide a "teaser" with a link to the source

Antonio, if you're looking for text content from RSS that you can use, hit me up on ICQ 211726922, we're looking for blogs that would publish content that we write and in return would link to us from that text. Hit me up if interested...

Sosa 03-31-2007 08:50 AM

Most maintream places will say you can view their tos and use it to display on your site but your site must not have any ads.. Thats one thing that sucks. Of course that doesn't stop some people

Tapaz 03-31-2007 08:56 AM

Antonio , I reccomand you to ask PERMISSION to use the feed. I had couple of people shutted down by sponsor coz they used my feeds without permission. Is not like yo can use everythign you want as you want.. expecially when we talk about QUALITY UNIQUE CONTENT . Also , all those assholes that makes all those splogs with this shitty blog generators , they are all losers :) Said that , I will keep having people deleted from host sponsors :) If I catch them :) Enjoy !

consult a lawyer. the advice people are giving you here is retarded.

Damian_Maxcash 03-31-2007 08:57 AM

Has it been bought to court yet?

It would be interesting - "Syndicate" has a particular meaning in English.

When a word has a strict definition in language it is hard to challenge it.

ichauch 03-31-2007 10:59 AM

Of course it's theft!

Contra 03-31-2007 11:14 AM

depends on fair use
