Sponsors deleting 'inactive' affiliate accounts = unprofessional

Quote:

Dear Affiliate
We note you have an active affiliate account that has not been used or made any sales in the past 8 weeks, we are currently performing a database clear out of dead accounts, over the next 30 days we will be deleting accounts that have made no sales in the previous 12 weeks.
Cost of keeping 'inactive' affiliate accounts = $0.00.

BradM 03-30-2007 03:10 PM

Who is that sponsor? What if I am ramping up an ad campaign and had no sales for 8 weeks because I was prepping. Then I launch and my links are all dead?

Please expose these buggers.

darling2 03-30-2007 03:11 PM

We at KM bucks don't clean out inactive affiliate accounts.

We would rather try to contact affiliates and help them promote our program.

I just think that is common sense!

sicone 03-30-2007 03:12 PM

at least they emailed you instead of just shutting you down

jact 03-30-2007 03:13 PM

Sponsors who do that don't realize how many webmasters took part in the build it and forget it types of campaigns years ago. Either that, or they do realize and they're crooks who want to steal trickle traffic.

FreeHugeMovies 03-30-2007 03:13 PM

Why not hit you up and ask if there is anything they can do to make you ACTIVE?

Poor marketing

same question....

Yahook 03-30-2007 03:17 PM

I also don't like when sponsor deletes an inactive accounts :(

VicD 03-30-2007 03:18 PM

If they delete me, i'am gone forever

XPays 03-30-2007 03:19 PM

they must use it as a sales tactic because deleting webmasters is absolutely insane.

commonsense 03-30-2007 03:20 PM

If they delete you, they already considered you gone forever.

But yeah, there's no real reason to delete old accounts. None what so ever.

darling2 03-30-2007 03:28 PM

Name and shame 'em

Very true. It's a couple bytes of information in a database. There is no reason to delete 'inactive' affiliate accounts and it doesn't cost a sponsor anything to keep them, but to have somebody go through and delete them cost them money. A few cents for making a query, but still a few cents is more that $0.00.

s9ann0 03-30-2007 03:33 PM

I have had lots of accounts I haven't used in ages then they bring out new sites and I go back and try them again, I probably wouldn't bother if they had deleted me and I had to signup again.

Daruma 03-30-2007 03:33 PM

disk space costs $$ :1orglaugh :1orglaugh :1orglaugh
stupid to delete

I've sent them an email... will give them a day to reply first...

BJ 03-30-2007 03:36 PM

sending an email like that seems like a way of threatening you to promote them. They should just send an email saying they noticed you were inactive and if theres anything they can do to help.:2 cents:

Masterchief 03-30-2007 03:38 PM

Zangocash did the same thing, they "deactivated" my account with like $30 in it.

Juilan 03-30-2007 03:52 PM

out the fuckers

he-fox 03-30-2007 04:01 PM

u-bob, I just sent you an ICQ.

DigitalPimp 03-30-2007 04:09 PM

The program is just plain ignorant to send such an email or the program is trying to rip you off because you either have money in your account below the required minimum for payout or you have rebills. Either way, why would you want to continue doing business with them?

got it :)

woj 03-30-2007 05:24 PM

that's bs, 8 weeks? wtf are they thinking, if it was 2 years or something I would understand, but 8 weeks is just crazy...

Fletch XXX 03-30-2007 05:26 PM

mainstream does this all the time.

vvq 03-30-2007 05:29 PM

8 weeks does seem like a rather short period. but if they were honestly trying to scam you they wouldn't of sent out the email. some programs also have huge databases full of fake accounts because surfers sit and make logins all day to get access the promo content and gallery links. there is a cost involved in that.

spacedog 03-30-2007 05:31 PM

I know a Hentai AVS deletes affiliate accounts that are below minimum payout & never pays you

mattz 03-30-2007 05:38 PM

sounds to me like a way from them to get you to start sending traffic

aico 03-30-2007 05:49 PM

It is my belief that they were attempting to use fear tactics to get you to promote them more to save your account from deletion. Seems to have failed.

bdld 03-30-2007 05:58 PM

no sales or no clicks? even with 0 clicks they still shouldn't delete accounts.

jimthefiend 03-30-2007 06:05 PM

Makes no sense. :eek7

Makes plenty of sense: The program takes over any rebills, and if it's a non-CCBill program will keep any accrued payout under the minimum.

Even if some webmasters respond by protesting it or by sending traffic, there's still many who won't...

CaptainHowdy 03-30-2007 06:27 PM

Professional or not -- it's simply bad business.

It's akin to retail shops deleting legitimate CANN-SPAM addresses for not purchasing within X amount of time. The cost of the storage space it takes to keep either address (and subsequently the actual PERSON) is simply negligible.

d00t 03-30-2007 09:23 PM

Why is this such a bad thing? Keeping the open accounts, active means that reps have more time to spend with webmasters that are actively sending traffic. Secondly, "deleting" is more likely to be "changing to inactive status" rather than purging all the data on file - which I agree would be odd.

It's not a totally stupid idea....

there are a million reasons why a program might need/want to do this. too many paranoid affiliates around here worrying about being scammed.

czarina 03-30-2007 10:32 PM

not only the ones that do that, but how about the ones that close your account because there are too many chargebacks? That happened to me with Gigacash. How the heck am I able to control the amount of chargebacks, when I'm sending them regular run of the mill TGP traffic?

The Sultan Of Smut 03-30-2007 11:57 PM

I got the same email and replied to them stating that I'm not sending them many sales since they're 27 HFGs got kinda lost in the stack of thousands in my database. They can delete away.

Finike 03-31-2007 01:47 AM

If the sponsor don't message you about the deactivation it's a rip off

okdesign 03-31-2007 11:17 AM

I agree with Bos, it's unprofessional ! :thumbsup

Tom_PM 03-31-2007 11:19 AM

I didnt see it so I'll ask it, What does their TOS say about it?

suesheboy 03-31-2007 11:57 AM

It says absolutely nothing. They have a minimal webmaster area and the Terms and Conditions link is focused on the surfer.

tranza 04-02-2007 10:09 AM

Nobody is naming the sponsor???

CynthiaB 04-02-2007 10:56 AM

I don't mind if they close my inactive account as long as they pay me whatever commissions I earned and without any of this minimum payout nonsense.

Alex 04-02-2007 11:03 AM

You should be lucky they even sent you an email
