WRONG!
The actual vote is tomorrow Read the story on xbiz below: ICANN Advisory Panel Disapproves of .XXX Proposal By Rhett Pardon Thursday, March 29, 2007 LISBON, Portugal ? ICANN?s Governmental Advisory Committee said that it still continues to disapprove of ICM Registry?s .XXX sTLD proposal. ?The GAC does not consider the information provided by the board to have answered the GAC concerns as to whether the ICM application meets the sponsorship criteria,? the GAC wrote in a memo posted late Thursday. The GAC, which reiterated a memo released in February that objected to ICM's .XXX plan, expressed concerns on the eve of the ICANN vote on .XXX by the full board slated for Friday. The revised plan would allow ICM to assume oversight of Internet content, and that it would be inconsistent with ICANN?s technical mandate, the board said in its disapproval. Earlier in the day, ICM's chairman and CEO Stuart Lawley told XBIZ that ?There is no consensus amongst the GAC members." The GAC decision carries weight but is nonbinding On Friday, ICANN's 15 board members could approve .XXX, reject it outright or reject it but leave room for a revised proposal to return. The board also could defer a decision for more discussion. ICANN has rejected .XXX proposals twice in the last seven years ? once in 2004 and last May ? and already has discussed the latest version during three closed-door meetings this year. ICANN revived the issue in January after ICM agreed to hire independent organizations to monitor online adult site compliance with new regulations, which would be developed by the International Foundation for Online Responsibility, a separate entity. http://xbiz.com/news_piece.php?id=20933 |

If he wants to spend money on a lawsuit claiming government interence, that is fine with me. Throw good money after bad, it isn't going anywhere.

all we have is this rumor, let's not get too excited
"Advanced word at the ICANN meeting tonight in Lisbon just came in. I understand that the board has voted down the Dot XXX proposal tonight. The board decided behind closed doors that the new TLD should not be added to the Internet root. It is a long standing tradition at ICANN to have the secret board meeting the night before the offical board meeting." |
I would imagine that sponsors couldn't really give a fuck...
$60 domain names are just funny to them. It would be everyone else with 1000 domains that gets screwed over. |

i'll wait for the formal public vote. i did text some peeps at the forum and tell them that the closed door icann meet indicates that its gonna die, but i am not counting it out until its out. |

*If* it gets declined, then because of a few people including me, who took their time and wrote several LONG letters to ICANN and raised awarness on GFY about this issue. If everyone was thinking like you, you'd be having the .xxx domain already. |

But, I do think the US government did play a role. They did in the last vote, and their opinion is weighed very strongly in my opinion. |
For once, the US government was actually useful. I guess we shouldn't get used to it though, their motives were not the same as ours. They don't give a damn about the adult industry, they just opposed .xxx for religious reasons.
