Yeah, I went to a college and learned the basics of coding there. I also got my bachelors degree on business administration, and the studies I took help me along rather well as an entrepreneur..

Went to college to study marketing and entrepreneurship. My answer is
yes. Although I've learned a lot more by doing than I did in the books.

If your job will foot the bill, I say take advantage.

still improving my english skills daily there.

naitirps 03-28-2007 01:34 PM

negative... self-taught everything. 1.9 high school gpa ftw!

JayDeeZee 03-28-2007 01:37 PM

I use many of the the skills I learned in school on a daily basis. If your company is paying. Do it!

Time and money spent on education is never wasted.

I majored in physics, so no. But while I was in college the WWW came out and if I hadn't been in college I wouldn't have had access to a computer -- having been too poor at the time to afford one. So being in college was probably integral to the timing of me starting an internet business as early as i did.

Nope not really but I only went a community college for an associates degree.

As for me I got some HTML and programming basics at school, but all the rest I learnt myself. Currently I'm studying in university and I should say the knowledge I'm getting there doesn't help me in my job, 1 hour of reading some good articles online is worth 1 month of studies. Apparently, all schools are different, I'm talking about my experience :)

LiveDose 03-28-2007 02:13 PM

Nope, I attended to party my ass off, get laid and network. All 3 have paid off big time for me.

Bro Media - BANNED FOR LIFE 03-28-2007 10:06 PM

Yes, some skills from college I apply to my business practices - mostly in the marketing aspect.

A lot of my college experience was extrantaneous crap, though - not practical in the real world.

RawAlex 03-28-2007 10:28 PM

Yes, particularly photoshop and video editing.

Swish 03-28-2007 10:43 PM

I went for ECE (Electrical and Computer Engineering), so I got some programming and CS along the way, but the vast majority of what I use these days I had to teach myself. :thumbsup

RedShoe 03-28-2007 10:46 PM

I got kicked out of highschool. :Oh crap

Rob_MN 03-29-2007 02:35 AM

Dropped out of Uni to take up my career on the net and I have never looked back... but then again I was studying history :1orglaugh :1orglaugh

If you are serious about working online full time take up classes that will teach you stuff that you would otherwise have to pay someone else to do for you. Save you a bucket load of cash! :thumbsup

Rob_MN 03-29-2007 02:36 AM

Studying History what was I thinking!

AaronM 03-29-2007 02:41 AM

Great question for a board who's average member is still in high school. :thumbsup

lalika 03-29-2007 03:26 AM

you don't really learn anything useful in the college...especially in the commercial zone :)
