Notes From The Icann Meeting In Lisbon
FSC BOARD CHAIR, JEFFREY DOUGLAS AND EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, DIANE DUKE
Sunday was our first full day at the ICANN conference in Lisbon and it was a fruitful one. We have made email contact with just about all of the ICANN board members and have received responses from six of them. We met with one Saturday afternoon and scheduled appointments for later in the week with three others. We hope so spend most of Tuesday tracking down the rest of the ICANN board members for brief discussions and/or to schedule meetings.
Monday will be the opportunity for us to speak publicly about our opposition to .XXX and we both plan to speak on behalf of the industry. When we inform people that our trip was funded by the industry they are a bit surprised at the magnitude of the opposition movement and our industry funding seems to add credibility to our presence at the conference.
We spoke with a high level ICANN staff member who believes that the decision to accept or reject the ICM proposal will be made at ICANN?s Friday morning board meeting. Word thus far is that the board is split on this decision so we have our work cut out for us.
There hasn?t been a Stuart Lawley sighting thus far but we expect to see him in his full glory at Monday night?s welcome cocktail party.
We will keep you informed throughout the week. Our presence here seems to be making a significant impression and we would not be here had it not been for the support and generosity of our friends in the industry. Thank you for your donations, your hard work and your public support.
Sincerely,
Jeffrey and Diane
