I must say that this one sentence contains more new words for me than any other sentence I have ever read.

Incorrect. You can take shit and polish it to a very high finish... it all depends on how you do it. Most major motion pictures have trailers much better than the actual movie.

Chris Mac 03-31-2007 07:29 PM

Everyone is different on what they need done and how they want it done. As every video editor is different on how they do their editing ya know I mean their are good editors and bad ones. I am not saying I am the best but the people I done vids for say I am pretty good. Just ask Escortbiz I only did easy editing for him but if he wanted better I am sure he would of told me but he seemed to love my work and if anyone else wants my services I am available any time so click my sig for my contact info......:thumbsup

Chris Mac 03-31-2007 07:34 PM

See I usually like to make my client's happy I will go above and beyond to make them happy even if it is very time consuming ya know.

As someone who liberally uses the "..." it's funny that you BOTH use it to end your sentences. :winkwink:

Isn't it lol....

AsianDivaGirlsWebDude 04-01-2007 03:57 PM

Hi Chris - okay, I checked your two samples. My critique follows...

First, it might be useful to have a before and after clip if you did color correction or otherwise did anything to the source footage aside from making cuts and compressing the video.

Sample One: Having the lightstand in the background is just plain tacky and makes a bad first impression. The person shooting shouldn't have shot it in the first place, but as editor you should have cropped it out, or not used that segment at all.

The jump cuts near the end when the girl is using the vibrator are jarring. A simple cross-dissolve or better cuts would improve that.

The audio has too much hiss, and at one point you can hear some guy's voice cut-off, which is not good at all (his voice shouldn't be on there period). Also, the tripod sound is annoying (especially while the performer is rubbing her cookie).

Sample Two: What is the point of those transitions?!? Transitions should be used sparingly, if at all. In this instance, they don't add anything, and actually take away from the scene.

Good luck, however I seriously recommend that you come up with some better samples.

:2 cents:

Yes, true thank you for the advice. I will take that into consideration. These are just videos I have had for a little while that my brother in law allowed me to use for samples because people wont want me to use their samples. But I definetly will take your advice into consideration, thank you..

Okay, but this trailer is starting from a really bad place. Your homework is to go re-edit that trailer and use some alternate clips and fix everything ADG said, plus delete the split second of a videoo clip that remains in there after the voice that you have too delete. And while you are at it lose all those stupid transitions, (just use jump cuts between clips of different angles or simply use a cross-dissolve, nothing else) , encode it to a slightly higher video bitrate (it's too crappy looking), maybe sharpen the video just a little bit and maybe increase the color saturation. And consider adding some kind of image maybe a logo with with a url to the beginning and end that identifies what this trailer of for. And audio wise- maybe mix in some appropriate music mixed down low or ambient sound effects that works.

No offense bro, I don't know you or John Clark (since it seems like people are calling you the same person, I don't know either of you) but this one sentence is what's wrong with our industry. You said your clients, which implies people have paid you. Then in the same sentence you say 'yes I do need practice'.

I got out of the video editing game a long time ago, partly because people like you that don't know how to edit and need more practice make a few trailers then offer your services and try to compete with people that do this for a living. You undercut jobs and turn out substandard work.

In your defense I didn't even bother watching your trailers I just gathered my research by reading the negative feedback left by people that may have actually watched them.

If you like editing as much as you say then practice on your own dime.If you really like it practice by shooting your own shit and editing it. I used to practice by filming trees and bushes and shit in my own back yard and just editing it to music.

Practice, get better. Showcase your work here and the clients will seek you out instead of you seeking them out.

or you could hire a professional who won't use your videos as practicing tools. Golden rule people shouldn't break....pay cheep...pay twice. Sure a professional may be a little more money, but you're saving in the long end, and the quality is what you're getting with a pro.
