Laptop screen colors are different - WHY?

Colors on a laptop screen seem to be less vibrant.

I notice that my Dell laptop has different colors. My friend's Alienware is the same. And another friends HP is the same. Laptop screens just don't seem to show the same color range. When you try to correct it the last two boxes (black and grey) are the same color or the top two colors look the same.

It's annoying. Why is this? Does anybody know?

In the past my laptops seemed about the same....But I got a new laptop this week and I'm noticing a HUGE difference in the colors.

As a PC user I'd never want to use a Macbook for work.

As for as the quality of the monitor, it's strange that three different brands have the same color scheme. And with contrast, no amount of adjusting or tweaking will make a difference. When I'm working during the day I've started to hook my laptop up to an external monitor.
