How much is a MRI?

Anyone? Just trying to do a little planning here.

notabook 03-25-2007 05:23 PM

Depends on where honestly. Where I live it ranges from $1200-$2000 or so.

GigoloMason 03-25-2007 05:25 PM

Depends on where, if you have insurace, and prob any number of other things that I have no idea about :)

Are you talking about Magnetic resonance imaging? I've had 3 of them, they suck, as for price I can't remember, but it wasn't cheap. by the way best of luck with your results if you have to have one

dissipate 03-25-2007 06:14 PM

They roughly average between $1,500-$1,700

Juicy D. Links 03-25-2007 06:17 PM

1120 bucks

ronbotx 03-25-2007 06:42 PM

It depends somewhat on the size of the area to be scanned and your location(Dallas Metro Area for me). I had it done on my knee and it cost $1500. I'm told at our large local hospital , it's $2000.

mikesouth 03-25-2007 07:11 PM

depends on whats being photographed, whether or not dye is used etc 1200-5000

mine where in the 2K range

thorasic region with dye

What do you mean "they suck?"

Cyrano 03-25-2007 07:26 PM

$500 - $1,000 at private clinics in Quebec.

Juicy D. Links 03-25-2007 07:27 PM

kk i just looked at BCBS i just had one done , they charged em 1120 and BCBS paid out 400 bucks to em heheheheh

fris 03-25-2007 07:30 PM

here? free :p i have had 2 done in the past :p

PerrieBelle 03-25-2007 07:39 PM

I've had one... yeah they're free here too! lol
Good old English National Health Service :)
They're not that bad...
But they didn't get any more information from mine than they had from an X-Ray!
Depends on what they're looking for I guess.. :)

RRRED 03-25-2007 09:03 PM

Blah... I guess I gotta keep my leg immobilized till after Phoenix and then see if the part of my achilles that broke heals enough. But all I can see happening from that is having a very very weak leg that I'm not going to be able to walk on to figure out if it feels better or not.

I thought I could get out of a MRI but I'm going to have to do it cuz I don't know for sure if just a thread of my tendon rebroke or whether the thread that is holding it together is broken and the whole thing's gonna unravel or cause me to break the whole thing in two again.

Ugh I guess I gotta get one done. That's the only way. No insurance. I was just about to get some too. My timing... sigh...

thanks guys...

GAMEFINEST 03-25-2007 09:09 PM

good lucc..

AD_Jake 03-25-2007 09:38 PM

I think they are in the $1500-2000 range but like others say "depends where you go"

tony286 03-25-2007 09:42 PM

Why dont you use a wheel chair at the show to get around, you dont want to refuck it up .

northboy 03-25-2007 10:42 PM

It's a 2-3 month wait for MRIs here (in montreal) through medicare for free. I got it done privately (in a clinic) for $750 though. But I can't believe in the states it's that expensive.

Very bad move, not having insurance? Why don't you have it? I have always thought of you as a *practical* person who would never be without insurance.

If you screw around another day without seeing a doctor and following his/her instructions, you will regret it. Time is of the essence.

Go Girl, and worry about how you are going to pay the bill later.:thumbsup

SmokeyTheBear 03-25-2007 11:33 PM

free !! take a vacation to canada, claim amnesia once you arrive, tell them the last thing you remember was going for an MRI, then after they give you the MRI say " oh now i remember , i didnt have any money to pay for an mri, thanks "

SmokeyTheBear 03-25-2007 11:34 PM

p.s. wait till you get the results.

niche25 03-25-2007 11:35 PM

I just got the results from my MRI, 2 bulging discs and one ruptured disc... frigin great huh? :(

niche25 03-25-2007 11:36 PM

SmokeyTheBear 03-25-2007 11:37 PM

Ha yeah I know. In fact, I reamed my boyfriend for a good hour just the night before it happened about how we both need insurance badly now that we have our new jobs stablized and all that... Figures!

But yeah I did go to a walk in clinic since it was a Saturday and got the boot going today which already is going to save me alot. Plus since I've been through this before and I'm not the pushover I used to be, I'm not even gonna let them do that refer me to this person who will refer me to that person who will get me an appt with someone else etc etc.. Fitting fees for my boot.. blah bullshit I already know which one fits.

So far so good. I'll get the mri when I get back from Phoenix. No matter what I gotta let this have time to heal a little first by keeping it still. Only a week or so though. Maybe I could get it done down there.

Thank you Smokey. I'll see if that applies to anywhere other than southern cali. I haven't had time to read the whole thing yet.

shoeaholicanon 03-26-2007 11:50 AM

holy wow! i dunno - ask your doctor.
i'm from canada and we only have to pay a nominal fee.

Jman 03-26-2007 12:02 PM

I'm getting one done tomorrow and I'm a bit stressed about it.

Kimmykim 03-26-2007 12:42 PM

Achilles problems are usually cured with surgery, unfortunately. There is simply not enough blood flow to the region to regenerate much tissue.

jayeff 03-26-2007 01:26 PM

One thing to remember is that if you are paying directly, a call to the billing office - after you get the bill - will often get you a substantial discount: upwards of 25%.

This happens because of the hefty discounts which have to be given to insurance companies. Some places take some or all of that discount as extra profit and others issue reduced bills to people who are paying themselves. But many offer this service even though you may not find any mention of it on your bills.

I lucked onto the practise when I queried a bill a few years ago and the guy on the telephone mentioned that, oh by the way, I could claim a discount. Since then I have got into the habit of asking and I have saved a huge amount of money.

RRRED 03-26-2007 05:35 PM

That's a killer jayeff I will definitely do anything I can. I had to peck at them slightly today buying my boot. Once I said I'm paying cash, they gave me a good deal and were very cool about it.

Kimmy yeah I had the surgery for like 40K$ probably more but I can't remember exactlly. I lost my business, and paid so many different specialists, therapists, emergency room stuff, equipment, etc etc I ended up having to go bankrupt from it. It just cleared off of my credit this year too..

But I guarantee I'm not gonna let anything like that happen again. The medical "business" is just as corrupt as every other. I was too scared and devestated and in total agony last time so it didn't dawn on me to question then since my future was in their hands.

Here in AZ I know it is around $1,500 without insurance.

Jman 03-28-2007 03:55 PM

Ok I got mine done all good no problems at all apart from the 2 hour wait for the liquid in the vain to spread around.

Then did the test and once we where done the chick said she needed to check something with the doctor. After she came back she told me we needed to do more films and put me up again under the machine. I asked her at the end if all was good and she just told me she can't give any diagnosis but doctor should get back to me within a week.

WTF I hate not knowing FUCK!!!!!

Wordsforhire 03-28-2007 04:00 PM

For all that we moan and bitch about the good ol' NHS it does us a lot more good than harm. All the NHS docs are just private docs on a different day. All it means is the waiting time is less.

You'd wait about 3-8 weeks for an mri here but at least it's free. Spose that's just what we have to weigh up, free or quick, most people do both though. NHS for consultant apps and mri's and for big ops they use their private cover works pretty well..

Good luck with everything though, don't spend too much time on your feet!
