GFY...I need your advice....regarding a dj gig next weekend

So, this group is coming to play Atlanta next weekend and I have the honor of opening up for them, I play from 11:30pm-12:30am, they play from 12:30am-1:30am....

my question is.....they put out some slammin music, and I get most of it before it hits the streets (inside sources).....one particular song has just been released by them and I have been playing it for the past month or so when I dj out, is it all right for me to play this track at a peak crowd time for this event KNOWING they are going to be playing it maybe 30 minutes later?

I could be the asshole and say "fuck it, I am playing first and the track it too damn good to not play"....but I am usually not like that, except in this case where I know the track will blow the roof off the club, and most likely I would play it late in my set (close to their set)

Opening for them with their music is;

1. in bad taste
2. most likely to piss off the audience
3. and is not a great way to show them what you got

Rock the house with some jace originals lol

don't steal their shine...

Don't play any of their songs. As sad, that will make them angry. It is their work. You will also look bad. It is like you don't know wht to play else. Use your imagination.
good luck!

Never, never, ever play their songs unless they want you to. People get real pissed. I've seen acts show up with a list of songs the DJ is not supposed to play. Shit like diss songs towards them, shit they don't like etc.

But DO bring some of their shit and instrumentals if you can.

My homie had all of Raekwons instrumentals loaded up on serato, and it happened that rae didn't bring very many beats and wanted to do some requests. He had that shit loaded up in seconds and got mad props.

i've opened for xzibit, slick rick, too short, doug e fresh, ice cube, half pint, third world, digital underground, cypress hill, & others & every single one of them asked to reserve their cuts for them to perform. your people are probably no different and playing their cuts would be uncivilized.
