DEBATE: Console Vs. Console Free

Ok, here is my thinking on this.

Every program has console and console free, well 99% do, and if they don't they should. Heres the argument.

In this day and age with every single solitary mechanism for browsing the web having popup blockers that are pretty damn effective (numerous toolbars, googlebar, yahoobar, internet explorer built in, mozilla built in, many antivirus like norton, mcafee, kapersky), aren't the people that don't want pop ups pretty much not getting them anyhow?

In other words, why turn down that extra 5 bucks, or 10 in some cases when the software market by default is going to stop them anyhow for the people that are so pissy about consoles?

My machine lately is so protected by default that I can't even get consoles when I want to see them to check them out, I have to go to one of the other machines here in the office that is less protected and maybe turn off one blocker or two.

I think that the software companies have sales angled the pop up nuisance thing so well in marketing and selling their software that consoles are less and less effective everyday, even with people writing around them every day.

I'm not a daisy chaining console freak, but one or two are ok in my book, even three if the third is just a halfpage ad framed or something.

What are your thoughts on this? Take the extra 5 or 10 bucks and let the software companies sort em out through the browsers, security suites, and toolbars, which most are doing by default, or go console free and just fel a little better that you're not dinging the surfer with a pop up or 20?

The extra $ is great and it's the customers responsibility to block the popups. Even non adult sites pop up a lot of stuff. I think people have a problem with exits are ones that open sites in a new window. For example...
surfer goes to a tgp, clicks a gallery which opens in a new window. f

If there were consoles...
surfer > tgp > new window gallery > exits > maybe can't get back to the TGP

aside from organic niche-targetted SE traffic, exit traffic is the highest ROI adult traffic.

That one ^

I like console free for most of my traffic so I don't piss off my surfers.

For my 404 pages and stuff like that I'll go with consoles

but would you pop on an upsell from a members area?

for example

many will upsell the kim k-ardashian sex tape from their members areas. one tape with a life span, not a huge threat to a member you want to retain. would you pop the tour with a console from the members area knowing that the member might think that its you with the pop ups and cancel because "how dare you do that to me"

i'm more inclined to say yes outside of members area i would do it in about 90% of the times with consoles, depending on the application, but in the members area i'm not sure and would probably lean heavier against not pissing off my members to get the extra 5 bucks in this specific case.

:2 cents:

think of what it could be without all those pesky browser blocks, toolbars, and internet security suites. :winkwink: :thumbsup

good point man.

Dollarmansteve 03-23-2007 09:42 AM

blind tgp skimming is more annoying than exit consoles to surfers :2 cents:

thats one thing that i don't get. i know that people tell me they have to do it, but it pisses me off to no end. i wont even look at tgps anymore. when i see an image or thumb and i want to click it and go to that exact girls gallery, i don't wanna end up on a site completely unrelated to what i was clicking. if i was a surfer and i hit some of that blind shit i would never go back to a site. its like one giant circle jerk with no ending. free porn pass around.

if one of the tgp people read this can you explain it to me, because i dont see the the value of sending someone somewhere else when they were obviously motivated to click something that turned them on and caused that click impulse.

thanks

not pissing off the surfer is like the #1 priority on Freeones.com and this is one of the things wich brought us where we are now. They trust us and imo if they trust you you don't need the extra buck you make on consoles as conversions will make up for it.

Besides that the ones who don't want popups might have a popup blocker yes, but what about all the others who don't have one? Just screw them over with an unclosable chain of shit? No thanks ;)))

pornguy 03-23-2007 10:17 AM

Smokey announced the code the other day to beat most of the pop up blockers. You could always retain him to keep up with the code, and offer it for those that want it.

agreed. veteran advice there.

seeric 03-23-2007 11:08 AM

any tgpers read this yet.

i mean real ones. someone with some juice and traffic please tackle that skim/blind thing for a slow person like me please.

FreeHugeMovies 03-23-2007 11:16 AM

It depends on how aggressive the consoles are. 1 exit is fine with me. Some companies have massive popups and you can't even exit them without more popups. If that's the case I will choose CF

Jack_Daniels 03-23-2007 11:54 AM

Never mind.

HAPPYPEEKERS 03-23-2007 11:59 AM

I only use console free :-)

The guy doing the click has probably had his dick in his hand for the past 3 months. TGPs are full of freeloaders, why not make them work a bit harder and wring a bit of extra (cough) value out of them? No one would use skimming if it didn't work. :)
