Google quashes mobile phone talk

Google has poured cold water on claims it is developing a mobile phone.
The search giant said it was more logical to form partnerships with existing handset makers instead.

Google's South-East Asia managing director of sales and operations, Richard Kimber, yesterday echoed statements made by Google's chief internet evangelist, Vinton Cerf, that building hardware would be a dramatic shift in the company's business model.

"At this point in time, we are very focused on the software, not the phone," The Australian Financial Review today quoted Kimber as saying during his speech at the Search Engine Room conference in Sydney.

They came out and debunked this already... they aren't really working on a phone... They are doing some R+D on software, yes, but actual piece of hardware, no.

Still pretty vague about what exactly that means... Don't know if they are developing a phone OS, or applications or what.

It really wouldn't make sense to me for them to start making hardware.

I couldnt give a flying fuck what google are doing.

SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - Google Inc. (GOOG.O: Quote, Profile, Research) is building software to run services on cell phones rather than gearing up to build its own phone, as many industry sources have speculated, one Wall Street analyst said on Thursday.

Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster said in a research note to clients that Google appears to be building software for Web search on cell phones and location-finding services to work with Apple Inc.'s (AAPL.O: Quote, Profile, Research) iPhone and other cell phones.

"We believe Google is working with, not against, Apple in the mobile world," Munster said...

Google will play with software not hardware. They have no intentions of actually manufacturing anything really, that goes against everything they have done and do do. Expect co-branding and applications.
