How many times to sell each photo set?

I have been thinking a lot about exclusivity-- not the absolute meaning of the word, but the general one. That is to say, I don't plan to sell my sets only once, but I want it to be limited to people know they won't be competing with the same content. So, how should it be limited?

By the way... I'd love to see reasons for your answers, and alternatives to the choices I put above. (Like, should there even be a set number, or just a general limit?)

If you sell content, I'd like to see what you think is the best business practice. If you buy content, or might, I'd like to see what you are looking for from a content provider.

I think everybodies situation is different; hence, so should your prices be. Let the buyer know how much of the content is out there and offer something more exclusive if thats what he is looking for. You should give them what they are paying for or a little extra so that they come back, just dont fuck anyone.:2 cents:

I agree with all of that. I am just trying to determine how exclusive to make my content. I know I want to offer a limited release, but have not decided how limited I should make it.

I want to offer all sets the same number of times, for the sake of simplicity. So I need to decide on a number that allows me to make some money from the sets, but more importantly, ensures that none of the sets get oversaturated.

Let's put it this way...

Would you be any more likely to buy a set that was guaranteed only to be sold five times, than a set which had no limit at all?

Why don't you do what David Lace does: he has sets and adds to each sale a number of exclusive pics.

I think if you have a set of let's say 60 images and another 200 in store for the exclusivity, you can divide them by 10 and sell 10 x 60 + 20 exclusive shots = 80 pics/set...

My opinion is that a few pics from a set being out there is the same as the whole set being out there, in terms of saturating the market. People will still think "I've seen this before" even if it is different pictures. As such, I do not think that plan makes much sense. It shrinks the set I can sell, without giving the buyer any real added value.

Yeah, right ;) maybe the proportion of exclusive was to high.

But if the buyer knows which are 'his/her' exclusive pics then these could be promoted ahead of the rest of the set...

Heh. That's the idea... and it's why I asked.
