Stolen Content: Positive Effect?

First off, I'm no expert in this, I don't have a paysite... but just an idea:

Has anyone considered that if a bit of their content is "stolen" and spread everywhere (all watermarked of course) that it may result in positive results? Like free publicity? I know I encourage the free downloading of my music for instance. They didn't buy it, but fuck it they know my name.

I know tons and tons of people my age who would never purchase porn but are still avid fans of certain popular solo girls and shit like bangbus, mr chews, mr skin, round mound of ass, etc from free content and hacked passwords etc.

People jerk off constantly, those couple free movies and image sets they got from your paysite aren't going to last forever. Maybe they'll google it sometime down the road, i mean your name IS super catchy right?

Has anyone experimented with giving sites like these a bunch of content on purpose? Say you have this new solo girl, she's real hot. You send out a handful of full image sets and videos on rapidshare or whatever to a fuckload of these forums and BAM a grip of people now know her name.

Discuss.

Certainly, having content spread around a bit can be a promotional benefit.
Thats more or less the point of having affiliates too.

The problem arises when it evolves into having full videos or siterips spread randomly, so in the end the surfer can get all the material he wants for free.

yeah, exactly. That and ive seen a lot of images tho either blocked out with the watermark, something over it or the image cut so it does not show it at all

the issue is that a p2p user that grabs your videos isn't going to go to google to find more, he is going back to p2p to find more

and if he does google your name, it is going to be to see what episode your site is one so he can do a search for that on p2p

Sadly that is the truth.

Most surfers nowadays (not even talking about people that will never shell out $1 for online porn) are becoming savvy to say the least, and thats just one of the "new issues"...

Sometimes too much information can be a serious problem (eh sounds like something you would hear from Bush :helpme )

Its all well and good when people share stuff from hosted galleries etc...
but when surfer boards start posting "site rips" and full sets thats bad for business.
