Blog Designers

If I negotiate a price with you for a Blog design, is it also customary that I need to negotiate and additional price for the PSD to be cut into HTML and CSS?

Every designer I've worked with, Dickmans Designs, Webinc, Tenderobject, S20designs and others have always given me the PSD and HTML as part of the quoted price.

Not only did I pay an above average price for a Blog Design, $350. But now I'm being asked to pay additonal money to have it cut into HTML/CSS.

Maybe I'm asking too much for my $350? not sure.. what's the designers take on this?

we provide PSDs to our clients for ALL designs we do for them

doesnt matter the type of work it is

edit

you paid 350.00 just for the blog design?

DjSap 03-21-2007 08:35 AM

Usually it's included, not only the actual html/css but integration into wordpress or whatever blog script you are using.

TeenCat 03-21-2007 08:38 AM

html and scripting does not needed to be included in design, cause its part of programming, but psd must be always included, cause after paying you are owner of the design so you must have sources to do what you want to do with it. if he will not give you psd, kick him and ask some designer on gfy :thumbsup

I have _NEVER_ heard of a designer who doesn't slice up the design and give you the HTML. That's 100% rediculous. Never the less ask you to pay more?

Sounds like you have a shithouse of a design company. You're doing a diservice to the GFY community by not outing these designers so future customers can be warned that they do not offer end to end design.

I completely understand not integrating it into wordpress, that's pretty common as not all designer can code, but _EVERY_ designer should be able to, and be expected too slice up a design and provide you with full HTML including CSS for the text as the appearance is part of the overall design.

If they had any pride in their work, they would complete it. Pretty easy to see they are in it for the quick buck, likely why they overcharge so much.... no one ever uses them twice.

Your post makes me angry just reading it.

never pay until you get a finished product. they don't wanna slice it up and give you the html, you don't pay them.

Ya, I would like to know who this design company is as well, so I can be sure to never use them.

Did they know you would be using this design on the internet for a site? Or did they just think you were going to print it out and put it on your wall? That's absolutely ridiculous.

$350 is robbery, btw. You should have stuck with s2odesigns or Dicmans, someone a little more reputable.

IMHO each project should be quoted clearly. Including the files that will be included upon completion.. I, basically include html, psd & fonts if requested by the client upon turnover of the project.

Base on the quotation that was given to you. I think that you deserve to have the psd/html files of the project. A flat image (jpeg/gif) is not worth $350 if you request for the psd/html files. My :2 cents:

JAGERBOMB his ASS Jamie!!!!!!!!!

To be fair, I wouldn't use 95% of the designers html code seeing as they just used the slicer in imageready.

If wordpress integration is not included then you might as well have the integrator do the slicing by hand as that is the best way to do it.

I agree and that its our fault for not clarifying the expectations clearly. We just assumed the HTML/CSS was part of the price. Obviously there is a communication problem between us and the designer.

if a client asked me for a design, it automatically includes the html/css upon completion, unless if the design is for print...

and i would also send the psd and fonts used if the client asked for them, without any additional charge.:thumbsup
