UK Folks - Time for the Gordon Brown's last budget

how much will booze and fags cost this time? That is what people care about the most on these things :)

Ross 03-21-2007 04:37 AM

Its budget time already? I don't care how much booze and fags cost. I don't smoke and I don't drink very often. I only care about Road tax and Income Tax... Fuck everything else.

Me either..I was just joking. I have never smoked in my life and have about five drinks a year. I think inheritance tax will be mentioned this time around has it has been a hot topic in the news the last few days. I hope they don't put much more tax on flying. I think not having to be rich to fly has cultural benefits that help to balance the environmental costs and people are ignoring that.

Sarah_Jayne 03-21-2007 05:03 AM

PMQs first and then we find out how we are getting screwed

They wont raise income tax, they like the sneaky taxes on travel and national insurance which is impossible to workout if you're better off or not.

Inheritance really pisses people off.

Here in Spain it's weird, because each region has their own laws, so in the Basque country there is none when its passed from parent to child, so everyone trys to get their old parents into a home up there.. hehe

Sarah_Jayne 03-21-2007 05:24 AM

Yeah, it is that the spike in house prices is putting more people into the 'super rich' bracket that inheritance tax was suppose to reach.

Getting ride of the 10p rate though, so wont really make a difference.

He's a master at that.

He'll make an interesting prime minister, hope the image people don't get hold of him and make him change. I like his grumpyness.

Ross 03-21-2007 08:07 AM

There's nothing in this budget for anyone really. Only the fuck heads who scam for benefits ever gain out of this. The rest of us just pay for it.

It took me ages to figure out what it was about Brown's manner that I didn't like (separate from any policy reasons) and then earlier this year I figured it out. His posture and mannerisms are very close to Richard Nixon. He even pushes himself up on his heels like Nixon did and in silhouette they are very similar.

Damian_Maxcash 03-21-2007 09:52 AM

Not bad....

Inhertance tax limit up to #350K by 2010 - I like that.

Cigs up 11p, I was expecting that to be a lot worse.

I saw that the lower band income tax was coming down 2% but I didnt catch if the higher rate was going to drop as well?

chris01282 03-21-2007 04:05 PM

who the fuck voted for Labour anyway???

I do.

Incidentally, is it me but are the less well off going to be worse off with the scrapping of the 10p band even taking into account the 2p drop?

Vendot 03-22-2007 04:47 AM

Im surprised noone seems to care about the fact that 40% kicks in after £43,000 frm 2009 onwards.

thats my favourite one!!!

Its all about the costs man! Anything I buy goes into my tax return from my accountant. Meals, concert tickets... everything :)

It is all about personal views. I could never vote for the Torries and libdems are just acting like fools at the moment. So, bleh.

Milkmans World 03-22-2007 10:52 AM

As I understand it,

Income tax down 2%, comes into effect next year, Fag and booze up, comes into effect now, no suprise there!!
Lowest rate of tax, 10%, abolished,
Tax free income remains the same (First £5000 or so)
National Insurance risen, not to mention all the future rises due for council tax.

All in all it will make very little difference to anyone, maybe a couple of quid a week, which is fuck all even for a pensioner.

I loved one of the Newspaper headlines, The Gord giveth and the Gord taketh away.
