Tats to Cover Scars, what should I get, if any?

I have two scars near my hips about 2 inches below my belly button about this long > ---- < They do show, and I've never been a fan of tats on my body, although I admire them on others.....However I am starting to wonder if I should just leave the scars be or get two small tats to cover them and if so....... what would you suggest. I've looked at 1000 images and nothing grabbed me to the point I would want it on me forever. I know nothing about them, for example how often they need to be touched up, if the ink bleeds making the lines blured, etc. I was told they can ink on white, but I was also told it won't last long. I've hit plenty of sites, but of coarse they aren't telling you the down side to it, they are trying to sell it.

So, Tat advice and Tat Ideas that would look good being small, or just shut up and keep the scars? :helpme

For those of you that know what I look like, I'm fair skinned and I don't wear "belly shirts" so they most likely would not be seen unless I was at the beach or hanging out at home. I just don't like looking in the mirror and seeing what looks like a semi toothless vampire bit me and I don't do the "tanning thing" so I can't use that to make them less noticeable. I'm the queen of SPF, no tan here. :(

PS. I didnt get stabbed or anything dramatic. lol It was a simple surgery so the skin isn't raised, I only had 2 stiches per incision and most likely I will be having those opened up again very soon, so they will become even more noticable (the reddish color will deepen)

we need pics from multiple angles ;)

What about a unicorn, or flower? Nothing sparks your interest?

There are things I like such as dolphins, my sorority letters, etc, but I can't see them looking good as tats. If I have to have it on both sides, I want them to be cohesive and be related or mirror images of each other. I like Oriental Symbols but that is soooooo common and if I grow the nerve to do it-- I want it to be unique.

Hey Juicy! How do tat artists learn how to be so damn perfect with every single shadow and not one crooked line? Who or what the hell do they practice on? Inking skin is dramatically different than sketching on paper. I could never do it even if I was a great artist, I would be afraid of making a big mistake like some of those I've seen where the idiots misspelled stuff.

baddog 03-19-2007 10:01 PM

Sorry, you are too old to be thinking about getting tats.

Have fun with this, I could make you a little fem tribal that would cover it but it depends on you, I have drawn up tons of tattoos, drop me an email at admin at 1girlsgonewild.com and I will send you a couple of ideas...

UniversalPass Pete 03-19-2007 10:24 PM

I have been thinking the same thing! Not a big fan of tats! But I have this scar on my forearm that I want to cover with a tat! Not sure what I want to put there either!:pimp

A lot of tattoo artists won't tattoo over scars. It's a pain in the ass since scar tissue can be very different. Sometimes, the ink won't take, sometimes the ink takes too much and bleeds.

Also, if the scars are going to be opened up soon, don't get the work done. Having the scars opened will almost certainly mess up the tattoo work. Afterwards, you'll want to give the scars a while to heal to ensure you don't break the skin or make the scar worse.

dont know about covering up scars but I know there will be a tattoo artist at the redneck getaway

you going babe?

LadyMischief 03-20-2007 08:01 AM

Instead of covering them right away start putting Vitamin E oil and collegen-elastin cream on them.. they will losen up and fade much quicker

TG Rebecca 03-20-2007 10:24 AM

what about a flower on each scar? or stars (a bit overdone for my taste but still cute)? or birds (doves, sparrows, swallows either done realistic or a bit cartoonish depending on your personality)? or hearts?

:)

I don't believe there is such thing "as too old" to do anything. I'm only in my thirties, not wearing adult diapers just yet. I think there is such thing as "too young" to do things, but not the other way around.

Have a plastic surgeon do a cosmetic stitch on them.

It was a plastic surgeon that did the surgery in the first place. lol They healed very nice and very smooth, they just show because I'm "butt white" my tummy has NEVER seen the sun, much like my ass.

pink_in_the_middle 03-20-2007 10:52 AM

These scars you're talking about don't seem like anything to be worried about. Post a pic of the scars or even one if you can to show us so we have a better idea.

Damn, I wouldn't want that on me (I know you were not suggesting that either, but WOW, that had to take some damn talent. Working on skin takes being an "artist" to a new level... (or atleast I can assume) because I can sketch with pencils but I would never touch someones body, it would look like a preschooler did it. You can even see a relection in the eyeballs. Very impressive.

I slept on it and have ONE idea so far. I may have my sorority letter (Very Small) and incorporate a dolphin diving in to it, or maybe a part of one letter). They really don't need to be bigger than a penny, so that might be too detailed. I'm going to snap a pick of just one of the scars and upload it this afternoon to give ppl a better idea. (just the scars, not a full body shot. lol)

1. How long does it take before color starts to fade?

and WTF is that tat Candyflip uploaded? Is that supposed to be a game boy? That doesn't look like it was done by someone that was very talented at all. THAT IS MY BIGGEST FEAR... having something turn out that looks like a kid drew it on with markers.

ummmm, the one thing women never think about with tats is how they will look 25 years down the road

What about men? There is no free pass for having an aged and/or stretched out tat. lol My Mother just turned 59 and looks my age and I have her genes, and in 25 years from now, I will be around 58 years old, so either I'll have the luck of retaining my "ok" figure and nice skin or not, but at that age (close to 60) -- Plus at that age, I won't be running around in a bikini and halter tops. I honestly don't care what other people think as long as I'm happy with myself. The only reason I started this thread was to ask some questions about tats and see if someone could spark off some ideas, and they have. If someone wants to judge me an a tat of all things, then I don't even want to be with that person. I would worry more about sagging tits than I would a tat. Just my person opinion, just like an asshole, we all have one and I'm proud of my age and I'm VERY certain I'll have better things to worry about 25 years from now than two penny sized tats.

tats are rarely flattering on a 20 year old

I have a 3 inch scar on my lower back that i have been debating tatting around and over and i have heard the same, some say its ok and some say its not a good idea to tat on scars.

Hard decision i am right there with ya'

Although i have been told that a scar can be sexy in its own way.... food for thought...

If you don't know that code, you're not a geek. Though Contra was the most popular game it was used in, it works in over 100 other games.

It's called the Konami Code.

Big Red Machine 03-20-2007 06:27 PM

I always thought a Rose with a Vine would be a good way to incorporate a scar

Fap 03-20-2007 06:50 PM

sounds like a good idea
