The paysite traffic leak thread
Let's all play the traffic leak game. Try to find the most annoying traffic leaks possible and post them up... maybe programs will tighten up their tours and better track affiliate codes through their entire sites...
My first one: The "members entrance" leak. http://bangbus.com/t1/pps=testing123/ Click on the member's entrance link (as some surfers might do) and then click cancel (because you obviously don't have a membership yet). You get a 401 page with the affiliate code BB401 all over it (obviously an affiliate code setup to track 401 sales). The only good thing (from my standpoint) is that BB opens the members area in a new window, which means the tour is still there on a page. The downside is that the user is likely to continue in their visible window. Just a small one. I am sure some people have some better ones to share... :) |
Whoa, as soon as I read "The"...I knew this shit was original
|
heh-heh.... actually the idea is to show that many other programs (not just BB) have issues with disappearing affiliate codes, traffic leaks, etc.
Another good example: http://www.adultrevenueservice.com/r...er=&x=1&c=FREE Click the "members entrace", which brings up the password entry deal. If you look on the page, the "need a password" link (which a surfer would likely click) is hardlinked to: http://www.adultrevenueservice.com/r...=login&t=5&x=1 Nice to see affiliate codes disappear like that. |
There is an old thread at gfy called like dirty little tricks of sponsors or something that could help us here ...
Anyone remember the thread? |
Here is the thread I made about it
fucking-around-and-business-discussion/596416-cookies.html And here is the one I was talking about it fucking-around-and-business-discussion/574648-dirty-little-secrets-affiliate-programs.html |
I am hoping that this thread would have more "meat"... rather than vague generalities and suggestions of "not everyone doing it right", I would rather see some clear samples and the allow the programs to address the issues that are out there.
I personally have always felt that the "webmasters make money" link should ALWAYS have the affiliate code on it. |
This pimproll one iritates the hell out me and they've been told about it a couple times I think and still haven't done anything about it.
http://members.adultvideoplanet.com/index.html Note how the ONLY link there doesn't carry any affiliate code (even if you come to the site thru a link with an affiliate code). Why does it iritate me so much? Because any surfer clicking on the "Log In" links on this page http://www.adultvideoplanet.com/sites.html?a=&p=p&pp=6 will be taken to that page and I know many surfers will do that. The other thing that really pisses me off is that pimproll has said in the past that they pride themselves on not having leaks. And yet they haven't fixed this. |
my 2 cent are already here,

Yeah, the Don't have a password? Click Here to Get One Now on those pimproll sites is pretty annoying. That is like 100 traffic leaks on a single page.

Oh dear....
|
I really hate traffic leaks as well ANYWHERE on the tour. I love the standard response to them.
"We don't make money on them." "Who would click there anyway?" If that is true, why in the hell do you have it there in the first place? You have them there to STEAL traffic away from your affiliates. |
Check out Platinum Bucks.
http://www.asiancream.com/?revid=15278&pid=1&track= If they scroll down to the bottom and see Surfers: Click Here for On-line Videostore. They have popups you can't even get ride of. |

As Freehugemovies noted above about platinumbucks and the 'video store' links. I think Pornstardollars does the same thing, and even announced they would be adding these links to the tours to help them become sticky or something. When questioned whether or not these were simply traffic leaks, they seemed to imply that tracking of those links were being implemented. Haven't heard anything since.. |
I am hoping that some people from the programs would come in here and address the issues.
|
Oh, and Pornstardollars 401 or members area denied page has links to several programs, but doesn't even give the option of joining the site the surfer was on. They do have links to all their site, but again, the affiliate code is lost.
|
There are plenty of those things... 401s and 403s seem to be a pretty common place to lose affiliate codes. Webmaster links are another. Anyone got anything a little more underhanded?
|
put us to the test.. I dont think we have any traffic leaks at all.
If so we will fix them asap:) |
Roger, right away I notice that your webmaster link on every site has no affiliate code on it.
I checked a couple of sites and you are pretty tight, but mostly because you open stuff in new windows. |
What are pimprolls payouts?
