Does anyone else feel we're entering like a new phase on the internet?

Technology's always changing and all that good stuff - but something about things in the last 1-2 years - esp. blogs/myspace blowing up and like window's new setup.

It's like we're on the verge of the next chapter, younger ppl who grew up mostly on the internet are now getting into careers and things are speeding up a bit.

Maybe it's just me, feels weird.

Same shit, just different bells and whistles.

Doctor Dre 03-15-2007 01:30 AM

You just have to take advantage of that... The internet needs a more human approach.

Not being a doomsdayer or complaining or anything.

Hard to really distinguish between the chapters. Feels like they all mould into one with the internets forever changing nature. But yeah see what you're getting at - internet users are becoming far more savvy having grown up with them etc...

ADL Colin 03-15-2007 02:46 AM

wikification. I like it.

What's next? Can't wait.

Well said, thank you. that's what I was getting at.

I can only say this... You need to get moving because eventually someone will code something to replace you.

And you need to be, "The Man" real quick before there are so man little guys you can't get enough pieces of the pie to stand out.

Nah there will always be a need for free thinking. Automation will take over a large part. But IMO the idea of more user interaction is begging for more social behaviour rather than whatever a program can spit out... but hey just my :2 cents:

adapt or die. the laws of the jungle have not been repealed.

I do, in the sense of video. I know it's all the hype now, but it's just coming into its element online, and I hope it keeps growing. I used to maybe watch a video here or there online, now I can spend time everyday looking on digg, etc for the top vids of the day, searching youtube for things that interesting me, watching full length documentaries on google video, etc. I hope the whole viacom/youtube thing doesn't slow it down, but I certainly think it's great. And whatever people say, there is alot of really interesting home made vids (not the boring dickheads giving their opinion to a webcam) videos on youtube, just depends what you're searching for. I really look forward to seeing what google offers/pays when it starts running short pre-roll ads on youtube, it should really bring out some of the small time video editors to promote alot of cool stuff on there, along with some of the bigger companies in time.

The internet is going to slowly take the place of cable/ satellite TV as we know it today. IP TV is going to be where it's at.

Think of CNN or ABC broadcasting right to the web and having your entire home entertainment system hooked right into the net. VOD would be a whole new meaning, and you would simply go to the website of a station and choose what program you want to watch when you want to watch it.

I think in the future there will be the opportunity to compete with these big multi media players via the web with your own TV station online. I mean think about it, why would big TV stations like ABC or CBS and so on want to limit themselves to just regional audiences when they could broadcast to the world?

So with that said, if the big boys can do it, so will a few small players that could have the chance to compete with the big boys.

I see what you're saying, but the younger generation is also becoming more lazy as everything is "automated" for them. The true survivors in this internet jungle will be those who dare to peek behind the curtain and take the reins (before the governments do).

Few members of the upcoming generation truly know the power of the internet. All that they see is a place to chat or post pics, audio, movies and a profile

I think you are referring to "Web 2.0." I just got back form SXSW Interactive and there is definitely a second boom happening. Exciting stuff, for sure!
