I read and heard it in several places over the years. If I am not mistaken one of the cable channels did a behinds the scene look at these court shows and explained it as such as well.

If you poke around google for a bit you will find actual plantiffs and defendents posting in blogs as well that say the same thing.

Just so you know...the defendants don't actually have to pay the judgement against them. The show picks up the tab for that and all related expenses for travel, food and lodging.

Yeah the show pays the judgements..my brother was on that court show in Texas. He lost his case and they paid the judgement. They also get free airfare, room and board and 500 bucks or so for appearing.
