If you do the automatic updates/patches from windows update, then your system has already been made aware of the change.

I was reading somewhere that this would not be the case and could possible have problems like y2k (very mild of course)

The y2k like problems are more related to bigger industry networks... finances, utilities... such like that.
A home computer was updated a long time ago.

my xp did it auto, but I had to do it manually on my win2k machine
