AVN's ICANN Ltr AGAINST .xxx
ICANN ICANN Email List Archives
[xxx-icm-agreement] -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- <<< Chronological Index >>> <<< Thread Index -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- .xxx opposition letter from AVN To: <xxx-icm-agreement@xxxxxxxxx> Subject: .xxx opposition letter from AVN From: "Paul Fishbein" <pf@xxxxxxx> Date: Wed, 28 Feb 2007 16:15:46 -0800 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- To Whom It May Concern, I am the owner of AVN Media Network, which publishes the leading adult video and online trade magazines, Adult Video News (AVN) and AVN Online. These magazines are read and respected throughout the adult video retail and adult online community. When the idea was first presented to us, AVN had offered support for the concept of a .xxx top level domain, but after discussing the concept with many of the leaders of the adult video and Internet communities, we have concluded that there is little support within the adult community for the .xxx domain, and we ourselves are strongly opposed to the creation of a .xxx domain. Yours truly, Paul Fishbein, Owner AVN Media Network |
Bump for this one important topic

Awesome letter ;-)
|
the problem right now is that many people dont like porn . . and the more people within the porn industry that say no . .the more people that dont like porn are going to think yes+ . .
|
That letter sounds half assed. Nothing in the letter says why they are opposed to .xxx (freedom of speach/stomach ache/etc) or any relevant arguement. It basically says.... "Well, we liked it at first, but no one else did, so we don't like it now too."
For being a respected voice of the industry, the email said very little. They might as well of sent an email that stated NO in a big ass font. It would probably be just as effective. :2 cents: |
hey I still havent seen one from Helmy
wonder why |

Are not most of the ICANN posters against .xxx somehow related to porn? I sense that the Adult Internet Industry and the Adult Film Internet Industry both basically supply porn content (certainly, porn movies aren't meant to be akin to "Gone With The Wind", and adult websites aren't meant to be religious!), but both suppy masturbatory content. AVN is a big fish, one that has it's fingers on the pulse of the Adult Entertainment Industry, so I would hope that ICANN will give proportiate weight to AVN being against .xxx. |
kudos to AVN for taking a real stand.
|
Doesn't look like AVN's letter has much substance to it, but at least they're offering their "yay or nay" to the concept.
|
So- one leader has spoken - will the others stand up? Where is Adult.com and Playboys stance on this - after all they run this forum and allow the majority of adult webmasters to speak out - but I sure dont hear anything coming out of the owners
Larry Flynt and Hef have been the leaders of free speech in our industry since as long as I can remember (and I remember when Playboy was in its infancy) - yet only Larry has taken a stance on this?? |

what the fuck??? what a bunch of bullshit and what a sorry ass position. "we used to support it... but since it doesn't have popular support, we are now strongly opposed to it"

I have yet to see anyone from this company take a stance one way or the other - all Ive ever seen is political corporate BS - I think its time to call out the people that run the largest companies and see if they have the guts to say something one way or the other - and this isnt limited to Adult.com or Playboy - its programs like Top Bucks, MaxCash, ARS, Shaw(SIC) and many others |

So, yes, to me it seems VERY helpful to our cause that AVN said that they are strongly opposed to the creation of .xxx !!! |

I guess none of these other companies are gong to take a stance - time to start pulling links and traffic :thumbsup
|
I guess that is better than nothing. I'll take opposition anyway I can get it.
Heres what I just posted too. Here is a list of links to posts by members of the adult community in opposition to .xxx. There are many 1000's posts in opposition to .xxx on more than 30 adult message boards. These are just a few samples from only ONE of them. These "message boards" serve as the town forums/meeting locations for the actual working webmasters who make up the majority of the industry. The support that is so widely spoken about is unapparent and invisible to the very webmasters and adult industry figures that are being spoken for by these "unamed" supporters. If there are so many supporters, lets see their names. Stuart should be forced to name his supporters, as we do not believe that there are any. It is undeniable that the majority of this community DOES NOT want this extension. Policing ourselves starts with policing those that are attempting to accomplish the equivalent of a strong arm robbery on this industry. The so called supporters are currently cowering in fear, hoping for a victory based on the lies of ICM that this "sponsored community" wants this extension. That is a lie. As a matter of fact, I don't even remember anyone asking ICM to lend a hand in sponsoring us. .XXX was ICMs idea, not the adult community. For a group that never intends to be a part of the adult community, they sure do spend a lot of time figuring out how to take control of it. Please accept these posts as additional proof that the industry does not want this extension and it serves no positive restructuring of the industry as it is being sold to you. Thank you.
