Applying for Us citizenship and selling porn?

I asked this question before but I wanted to try again in case there's different people on today, different responses...

I've lived here for around 16 years already, and you can apply for U.S citizenship after only 5 years... I was sponsored here by family when I was young so I have a resident alien card...

Anyways, in the form they ask you for 5 years employment history. I would have to put something like "internet marketing" since I'm only involved in promoting paysites, NOT producing porn or anything like that.

I heard that during the interview sometimes they'll ask you in-depth about what you do; they might ask a lot of probing questions.

Even on the main U.S immigration site it says :

"Eligibility Requirements: All naturalization applicants must demonstrate good moral character"

I know to not ever volunteer extra information, but if they ask me of course I will have to tell the truth. Like if they ask me "what exactly do you market?"

And then can they deny me because "advertising adult websites" could be considered not "demonstrating good moral character"???

I should have just applied 6 years or go when I had a normal 9-5 job and everything would have been fine. Now it's so complicated....

Did any other webmasters ever apply for citizenship?

I don't think promoting porn would have anything to do with "good moral character". It's legal, that's all that should matter.

Just don't act like an asshole towards them, I imagine that's what it's in there for.

Can you get denied because of promoting affiliate programs?

Would they consider that not demonstrating "good moral character" whatever that means??

I never tell people I sell porn, I only say "internet advertising" and no one asks questions. INS is different though, you have to be completely honest. I read on some of the immigration forums that they'll ask specific questions sometimes during the interview. Sometimes they will ask details...

Yea I lived here for real long already.

I have passport problems too, that's why I want to get citizenship so I can get a U.S passport. For some reason I don't have a birth certificate, I don't know if my mom lost it or whatever... I used to have this document that was notarized stating where and when I was born but I lost that as well...

And I need a birth certificate in order to get a Dutch passport (that's where I was born). And it's very hard for me to request a copy of my original birth certificate because it's been so long and they ask for a copy of your Dutch passport to even get the birth certificate so it's a catch-22

I just want a U.S passport so I can travel...

You do online marketing for various products. They dont need to know much beyond that, nor will they ask alot of details. Start promoting a few mainstream products. Then if they ask details you can tell them honestly. :2 cents:

Ok, I'll try. I am terrible when it comes to mainstream though, I have no idea what's going on over there...

I read on the immigration forums that sometimes they do ask detailed questions. Like one guy said he was "software engineer" and they wanted him to elaborate or something...

That's why I'm afraid that if I say "internet advertising", they might say "please elaborate."

And then I would say :"I promote affiliate programs and receive income from commissions from sales" or something similar. And then what if they ask : "What do you sell?"

Yea, like Stickyfingerz said I could try mainstream... I have no idea how though and it would probably be not very good because I'm just not good in that area. I think 99.9 percent of my income would still be from adult.

Juilan 03-10-2007 11:28 AM

Why don't you just start pushing mainstream dating & hosting on the side of you current porn marketing. And when the question comes say you market many products online among them are: mainstream dating & hosting. Which at that point would be true. They don't need to know the finer points of how you allocate your efforts.

I don't know jack crap about hosting, I can barely set up my own e-mail address. Yea, I guess I'll have to try the mainstream/dating thing...

Most of the Adult Dating Programs have mainstream sites as well. IwantU and Dating Gold do for sure.

MetaMan 03-10-2007 11:59 AM

Why dont you just set up 4-5 mainstream sites that really are nothing except "sites". just toss up some links on them to mainstream afilliate programs and make it look all tidy. i have a feeling they are not going to go and check your traffic rank.

just say you own these sites and use them. that way you are not lying.

Isn't that still kind of "pornish" though, promoting dating sites? I'm afraid they might think it's sketchy.

Of course there's nothing wrong with dating, it just sounds porno related.

Immigration officer asks "What type of internet advertising do you do?"

Me: "I promote dating sites"

Don't know what Uncle Sam thinks about that...

Yea, that's good... I'll have to do that...

I am afraid if they hear "internet" they will think of porn right away.

What if they ask "Do you sell anything porn related in ADDITION to mainstream?"

It will open such a can of worms...

s9ann0 03-10-2007 12:30 PM

I'd get a lawyer and ask them us immigration is harsh. when I go for bank accounts and stuff I tell them exactly what I do but I leave out the porn part

I say I build and market websites and talk about non-adult stuff I do when asked specifics

LOL
It's not what's happening right now that is that scary. It's what COULD happen if the tools put in place for the police state would be put into use.

I really doubt they would grant him citizenship while selling porn honestly...

I think you better lie or start promoting some mainstream sites for a while... so you can forget to tell them about the porn and not lie at the same time.

Sorry sir, but you are wrong. Remember that the ruls on this were made by ultra conservative people. To the point that protitution is viewed as worse then dealing drugs to children.

A person that has been arrested for selling drugs to a child and convicted, can still become a US citizen, but a person convicted of prostitution can not!

interesting thread...

bdld 03-10-2007 02:24 PM

dont mention anything about porn that's for sure. say you resell items on ebay, or do sales with amazon.

For everything I can say "Porn" on I say "Online marketing - digtal media".

All types of photos and video are 'digital media' and most people just accept that answer instead of risking sounding stupid.

Your fine bro..I just got my citizenship a few months ago and nothing too in-depth like that came up on the interview.

Thanks a lot! May I ask if you work in on-line adult full-time or do you have another occupation as well?

I read that the interview is around 15 min or so, it depends on the interviewer if it's in depth. Some officers don't ask much but others are tricky I heard....

porno jew 03-10-2007 08:52 PM

i wouldn't worry about it. i had many friends and relatives come over here from russia and it worked out ok.
