why would someone have 404 traffic?
when i build pages i leave them.. they dont 404

I'm the same way, I don't delete urls that have traffic & I don't leave broken links up either.
Only 404 traffic I have comes from people guessing at file names that never ever existed.

I have made the experience that lots of surfers look for more shit in different directories that don't exist. Or they look for more pics, and so on. I believe that's 403 though, anyway.

It's just common, people typing in stuff trying to find stuff. Or they try to index out of the directory, and goto the main domain. you'de be surprised

i just put a options -indexes in my htaccess and then have my 403 pages redirect to my main page or dialer
