Upgrade from Win98 to Win2K?
I was thinking of upgrading from Windows 98 to Win2k Pro.
I've played around with ME and XP and I think they both suck worse than what I have, but I hear 2K Pro is better and more stable. If any of you have upgraded to 2K is there anything you wish you'd known before you did it? Also, I have ALOT of saved passwords in 98 that I don't want to lose because I don't have them written down anywhere else. Anybody know of a way to get those passwords out of here so I can write them down or at least make sure they migrate over to Win2K? Thanks.... |
win2k is great, i like it better than any other windows.
if you gonna UPGRADE to it - you shouldn't loose any of your passes or other info, but if you want to delete old win98 and then install win2k from scratch then you better save all your personal stuff in a separate folder - like mail client, icq, maybe IE. |
Yeh definetly if your computer is fast enough.

You can Upgrade from 98 to 2000 (if the Language version is the same) and all your passwords will be there.

Ok cool. If the passwords stay then I'm a happy guy :thumbsup
BUT, it would be great if someone could chime in with a way to extract the passwords so I can see what they are and write them down somewhere just-in-case Mr Murphy shows up and ruins my day. |
Look for a program called Openpass

Make a search at Google for win98 password decryption and you should find lots of stuff

winXP works better for me than win2k
winME is worst piece of shit ever.. |

Same here, I use XP in classic mode , it starts faster than 2k and has been super stable from day one. It also runs apache mysql etc as services without any problems. |
I just use a dual boot I can chose to boot win2k or win98se much to lazy to upgrade plus there are still a few programs that dont work well with w2k but work ok for 98

I like XP WAY MORE than 2000. I haven't had to reboot even once since I upgraded it.

If you have the processor and RAM to upgrade, DO IT NOW. Either to 2Kpro or XPpro. Both are much better than 98. They each have their own quirks but are both worth the upgrade.
