USB Flash memory. Reliable?
How safe is this to store data?

i love mine.
i have a few of the memorex traveldrives with 2gigs each. beats the hell out of wasting cds to transfer shit. i keep my roboform2go on mine and use it as a password key also. :) |
Very reliable, especially the higher end sticks. No moving parts, much less heat buildup. Much lower power consumption. Compatible with nearly any computer out there. Newer flash memory lasts way longer than just a few generations ago, 20 years+. The old sticks had an obvious limitation on # of times you could erase/write, the newer ones can go well into the millions of times though so this is a little concern these days.

They're good until you take your resting foot off the top of the tower and it comes down on the flash drive. :(

I recently got an Ativa 4 Gig with U3. It's function is to run e-mail and hold website work so I can easily choose and switch between desktop and laptop. So far so good:thumbsup |
I love using them. No problems so far.

after doing that a few times, i started using only compact flash or sd cards instead |

Now I just use the regular portable versions of software on my usbdrive and back it all up to a folder on my computer daily. Which I highly recommend is they are very fragile and easy to corrupt. |
