Very reliable, especially the higher end sticks. No moving parts, much less heat buildup. Much lower power consumption. Compatible with nearly any computer out there. Newer flash memory lasts way longer than just a few generations ago, 20 years+. The old sticks had an obvious limitation on # of times you could erase/write, the newer ones can go well into the millions of times though so this is a little concern these days.

They're good until you take your resting foot off the top of the tower and it comes down on the flash drive. :(

I had a 2 Gig Sandisk Cruzer die on me shortly after I got it. I must have gotten a rare defective one, seems others really enjoy theirs.

I recently got an Ativa 4 Gig with U3. It's function is to run e-mail and hold website work so I can easily choose and switch between desktop and laptop. So far so good:thumbsup

I love using them. No problems so far.

or have one sticking out of your laptop and go to move it and smooosssh!

after doing that a few times, i started using only compact flash or sd cards instead

I must've gotten the same defective batch. Just crapped out completely after a day. IMO the U3 software is good, especially the feature where you can set a pass for the entire dirve. That said from my first crashed U3 drive I don't even use it anymore. I was using thunderbird portable, and Roboform for U3. The problem is you can get the program info out of the damn U3 if you wanna switch to another drive.
Now I just use the regular portable versions of software on my usbdrive and back it all up to a folder on my computer daily. Which I highly recommend is they are very fragile and easy to corrupt.
