WASHINGTON ? Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich was having an extramarital affair even as he led the charge against President Clinton over the Monica Lewinsky affair, he acknowledged in an interview with a conservative Christian group.

"The honest answer is yes," Gingrich, a potential 2008 Republican presidential candidate, said in an interview with Focus on the Family founder James Dobson to be aired Friday, according to a transcript provided to The Associated Press. "There are times that I have fallen short of my own standards. There's certainly times when I've fallen short of God's standards."

Gingrich argued in the interview, however, that he should not be viewed as a hypocrite for pursuing Clinton's infidelity.

The last line is my favorite part.

Aw c'mon, give Newt a break...

Sure, he served his first wife divorce papers while she was in the hospital recovering from cancer - but hey, ask Rudy Guliani if that's really so bad (he did a similar thing to one of his ex-wives).

Newt then quickly married another woman months after his divorce was final, only to divorce her later after banging a Congressional employee 23-years younger than himself, while leading the charge to impeach President Clinton for lying about a similar affair.

Who care's that he resigned from Congress admist charges of multiple ethics violations...the man knows no shame. He is now considering a run at the Presidency.

Next to Rudy, I guess Newt is a near saint...
