why cant you have www.---.com ?

You're allowed to have dashes in your domain name but you're not allowed to have 100% dashes?

does it fuck with ICANN or something ?
Code:

---.com        TAKEN        Whois
This domain is already taken ---.org        TAKEN        Whois
Unable to find at this time ---.mobi        ERROR        Unable to find result at this time
 ---.us        AVAILABLE
 ---.biz        AVAILABLE
This domain is already taken ---.net        TAKEN        Whois
Unable to find at this time ---.co.uk        ERROR        Unable to find result at this time
Unable to find at this time ---.org.uk        ERROR        Unable to find result at this time
Unable to find at this time ---.info        ERROR

Because it can't start or end with a ' - '

no idea. It just has something to do with the end and the beginning of the name... you can't have
www.-sex.com or www.sex-.com either.
