Did you also tried the Italian poutine:

It's like the regular poutine but the gravy is replaced with spaghetti meat sauce. It state better than regular poutine IMO.

i dunno if they were invented there i'm pretty sure the idea of fries with cheese and gravy was created a long time ago in coney island, new york (coney island fries).

i've never heard of them served with cheese curd so maybe they tweaked it a little

The_Muffler 03-09-2007 02:22 PM

They put crack in poutine...it's fuckin' addicting!

Accouding to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poutine

Poutine:The dish originated in rural Québec, Canada in the late 1950s and is now popular all over the country. [citation needed] Several communities claim to be the origin of poutine, including Drummondville, Québec (by Jean-Pierre Roy) and Victoriaville, Québec. [citation needed] The most popular tale is the one of Fernand Lachance, from Warwick, Quebec, which claims that poutine was invented in 1957, when a customer ordered fries while waiting for his cheese curds from the Kingsey cheese factory in Kingsey Falls (now in Warwick and bought by Saputo). Lachance is said to have exclaimed ça va faire une maudite poutine ("it will make a hell of a mess"), hence the name. The gravy was allegedly added later, to keep the fries warm longer. Linguists have found no occurrence of the word poutine with this meaning earlier than 1978.:thumbsup

lol hahah mozerella(sp)
man quebec invented poutine and every other place in NA tries to copy us..
We use our own type of cheese for the poutine and if replaced, (for instance mozerella) it WILL taste like crap

While at first glance the dish may seem similar to American disco fries, poutine with melted cheese, shredded cheese, or cheese slices is not regarded as "genuine" poutine, which is served with curd cheese.
some nice genuine poutine cheese

Where did you buy your poutine?
If you're ever in Verdun, try Poutine Lafluer located at 3665 Wellington Street. they have the best poutine in Quebec.:thumbsup The one at Patati Patata on 4177 Saint Laurent boulevard is pretty good too.
