Live.com V. Google.com...Predictions???

Do you think Live will become bigger than Google?
If google took over Yahoo,(Which I thought nobody would) anything is possible.

What's your thoughts?

All new IE7 come with a Live search bar next to the URL.

How many IE users in the World?

Not me anymore but very well said.
I never in a million years would have thought another search engine would have over-powered Yahoo.

Just shows anything is possible.

Take Xbox for another great example. Out of nowhere..Bamn!

Who knows everything is possible.

With the install base of Vista growing all the time, and with live being a somewhat integral part of the vista experience, the number of searches generated might end up being very high.

However, google has it's toolbar, it's default position on firefox (which is pays firefox very well for) and it is pretty much the default people think of. Google is the big dog in the yard, but even big dogs get tired and lay down after a while, especially if their search results get poor (yes, google in very much packed with spam now).

true, but that didn't stop them from becoming huge before... google is a household word, people dont say "im gonna search for drapes!" they say "im gonna Google drapes"

True too. Did you google it, or google them. Very household term indeed. :thumbsup

Since when is Google bigger than yahoo???

http://www.alexa.com/site/ds/top_500

MSN = #2
Google= # 3

That's only because yahoo was giving away free email account 6 years before google launched gmail. But for searches Google is used way more.

BT 03-06-2007 06:15 PM

with some solid marketing the sky is the limit

Titan 03-06-2007 06:36 PM

I searched for a bunch of stuff on live.com and it returned all useless irrelevant garbage but google returned good stuff. Live.com needs to fix search relevancy or it doesn't have a chance against google.

Narfle 03-06-2007 06:52 PM

I'm still waiting for the public outcry when the general population realizes that every time they use anything google-related they basically agree to letting google keep their information for whatever purposes. Yes, google is memorizing your gmail and looking in on google earth and all that shit. Apparently their goal is to combine car radios with the GPS's in the cars (being increasingly more common these days) and then use the huge memory base of google to give real life contextual advertising.

"A pizza hut is coming up in two miles. Pizza hut is your favorite!"
"Johnsons Clothes is coming up, you need new pants!"

Yeah it makes me think of the commercials in Minority Report also.

Biggy 03-06-2007 06:58 PM

Yahoo gets more traffic because of its portal qualities - News, Finance, Fantasy Sports, etc.

Google's new finance service (at least it's new to me) kills Yahoo's. I expect a big transition of Yahoo finance users to Google's, and I would imagine Google can pull it off across multiple different categories. Gmail is another great example.

I do think Google made a huge misstep purchasing YouTube. Google will rule for a long time. People say IE comes with a bar, however, where does your FireFox homepage load to? A firefox.com/mozilla.com page with a Google search box.

What is live?In the following five years G should be the big brother.

get over it, the government has been "watching" everyone for years, google is no worse, how do you know yahoo doesn't keep your emails, because nobody has came out and said it? just because you click "delete" doesn't mean its gone, google just came out and said, emails never get deleted... how do you know no other big site is doing the same?

personally i would trust google with my LIFE, because they actually come out and tell you they keep your info, and show ads based on your convos... its called marketting, google would of been dead ALONG time ago if they didn't do something about making money... they are just being smarter about it then all the other guys who just throw ads at you and you don't see them because everyone has come to naturally block out banners, google actually makes their shit NOTICABLE....

once again, ill say it... i trust google with my LIFE.

Although Live.com is a great name google is far too established now.

Semi-Retired-Dave 03-07-2007 01:44 AM

can anyone tell me whats the difference between live search and msn search?

slapass 03-07-2007 04:50 AM

The web has changed a bit. We used to surf through tons of pages. Now we go to specific sites. Stickieness has truly paid off. Live is a great name and will get some market share but they have always had search in there IE and it has so far not swayed the masses.

DamageX 03-07-2007 05:35 AM

It's all about smart marketing. As long as that part is solid, even an inferiour product can make it as market dominator.

live may be a good name, but its never gonna become a household name like google, it just doesn't sound right "how about you stop asking questions and go live it!" it don't work! now google, it does "how about you stop asking questions and go google it!"

I like Live's image search. It allows you to simply scroll down and uses mouseovers to display informaiton. You can continuously scroll down through hundreds of images on a single page, for me that is much more efficient than Google's image search.

We all made that "google it" a house hold name. I'm sure if Live picks up they will come up with something else for it. I still love Google and will continue to use them.

so you'll switch because of some ajax magic?

That depends upon what I'm looking for. If it is an image, very specific, like a needle in a haystack, yes. If it is a text based search, for now I use google. If google stops giving me good results for text based searches, I'd move elsewhere. But for now Live's image search has my "business".
