Wow, I downloaded GoogleMaps for my phone

It is fucking amazing. Probably one of the coolest programs you can get for a phone. If you have a smartphone, I suggest you download it. It rocks. :thumbsup

Does it show sat images as well? I've wanted to try it out but data charges in Australia are ridiculous...

Yeah, you get the option of viewing the satellite image or the map image. It also shows traffic details, you can search for something local like "pizza" or "strip club" and it will show you all the places in the area, as well as map the directions to and from them for you and even call them. Its pretty amazing.

We're unlikely to get all the extra stuff in Australia, but we still get the basic visual maps and sat photos...

I wonder if it can interface with the phone's GPS? If not then I'm sure it won't be long before Google is telling you that you need to turn right in 300 metres........

Fap 03-05-2007 11:38 PM

Do you know what phones have them?

Dude where have you been? GPS Phones are everywhere Boost Mobile is doing it to find friends and now on verizon there is navigation on your phone.

Two Guys Named Tony 03-05-2007 11:41 PM

I think its available for most of the smartphones. If you go to google.com on your cell phone there should be a link to download it. :2 cents:

The Palm edition is amazing. I tried it on my PocketPC and it sucked, but the Palm version has traffic (before Google Maps proper even had it!), draggable navigation on the map, etc. We call it our poor man's GPS :)

I have a treo 700W. Does this come with a GPS? Google maps is saying that the GPS on the phone isn't working. Thus it can't find my location =[

I am not sure, I think it might depend on your carrier. :2 cents:

i downloaded it to my blackberry pearl, you can view sat maps, and you can look at regular maps with live traffic overlays, living in Los Angeles it comes in handy when you decide which route to go...
i was going to get a gps/nav but with this thing, you dont really need it..

I like it for the traffic. much more accurate than sigalert imo and pretty cool to find places when you are on foot or in your car if you dont have nav
