    Fark! Did the USD burp????

I deposited around $USD6000 worth of cheques into my Aussie dollar account the other day, at 0.7969 US dollars per Australian dollar. Today the Aussie dollar is at 0.7796, a drop of nearly 2 cents. That means I could have made about 2-3% more if I'd waited a few days to deposit the cheques.

28 day average is 0.7926 so a drop to 0.7796 is a big deal.

If any of you Aussies have cheques waiting to be deposited, think about it!!

In 2001 it was at 0.48, converting to AUD was easy... double the amount and add a little extra for your trouble.

Yup since the China stockmarket took a shit last week it's been crashing. I tell ya hedging us currency is the best thing I've ever done.

keep your US payments in us dollar accounts, exchange small sums when you need.

EU payments in euro account, simple

I have a home loan so at the moment that's the best investment, the effective earnings are around 14% p/a because it is not taxed (it is a discount on interest charged, not interest income).

I still play the market a bit to time the best point to deposit cheques but if it's left for too long then I'm really just letting it waste away...

I'll get a combined USD-AUD account one of these days.
