real player. does anyone still use it?

I remember when Real Player was all the rage. I think they really fucked themselves though will all the adverts and spyware shit that came with it. I remember people would use .ram videos in galleries.

Anyone still put out content in ram format?

aico 03-02-2007 05:28 PM

Still? Did anyone ever really use it?

Redmanthatcould 03-02-2007 05:29 PM

I arbitrarily consider it spyware.

At one point I remember it being big. 97/98/99? When streaming content was a new thing.

Their days are numbered I think..

I don't have it installed, but when I need to play a RealMedia file, I use Real Alternative v1.51.

I hate that shitty piece of garbage. I have always avoided it at all costs.

i had a somwhat popular music site in 98/99 that featured full length songs in real audio, it was the best audio you could get online at the time that didn't take forever to download. how times have changed.

I stopped using it when they started installing that tray icon several years ago...

It was a bad file format, and it's a bad player...

VLC (www.videolan.org)

Very rarely..once every 6 months or so

teenytricia 03-02-2007 07:23 PM

well, i know i don't use it anymore ...

Barefootsies 03-02-2007 07:30 PM

Rarely. There are still the occasional sites that use it.

But I stopped using it once it ended up in my tray, slowing shit down with that scheduler, and launching on start up.

ANY non-essential application that loads on start up is out of favor with me quickly. This applies to all messengers as well.

As long as there is an option to toggle it off in their own software like Yahoo, or some of the others. I do not mind AS much. However anything I have to msconfig to remove out of my start up ROYALLY PISSES ME THE FUCK OFF.

:2 cents:

i haven't tried it ever..
