What do the young retired people do all day?

If you're not working anymore, and you don't have family yet (wife & kids), you aren't travelling, aren't partying every day, dont have girlfriend(s) and aren't posting on GFY......

then WTF do you do all day?

cranki 03-02-2007 06:42 AM

watching talk shows... just like their unemployed equivalents.

skinnay 03-02-2007 06:47 AM

we are all on gfy, of course.

bausch 03-02-2007 06:47 AM

Read x17online, perez hilton, all kinds and loads of forums besides gfy, relationship forum, style forum, ummm many others.

Shop on-line, research new things and read reviews on new products I want to buy.

Sleep all day.

Lay on the couch.

Try and leave the house once once in awhile to buy groceries.

I'm not retired, I don't work a lot though. I pretty much work as I please. Somethings I feel like working a lot because I'm obsessive compulsive and there's nothing else to do so it's like therapy. Sometimes I get lazy and can't do anything.

alexg 03-02-2007 06:49 AM

well if you aren't travelling, aren't partying every day, dont have girlfriend(s) and are retired then i guess you don't have much to do...

i would probably travel a lot if i was retired...

bausch 03-02-2007 06:55 AM

If I really was retired and had many millions I would move to Hollywood and buy myself into the Hollywood scene and somehow become famous or infamous...

just kidding of course.

I didn't say Im retired, although I in fact don't work much

but then again, travelling costs money. If you want to travel around the world all the time and live in nice conditions and have fun, then it's gonna cost you far more than just staying in your place most of the year.

Surely, if you're 35 and retired with 10 Million, then you don't have such problems. But if you aren't really a millionaire, in that case - I'd say, being retired doesn't mean you're having millions. It just means, you aren't working/don't have to work to support yourself.

You can own f.e 4 rental properties and make your living from them and you're making a comfortable living, but aren't really rich....

And you want to save most of the money you make, as opposed to spending it..

posting on forums is fun and addictive but it shouldn't be the biggest entertainment in your life :2 cents:

BlackCrayon 03-02-2007 11:53 AM

unless you have millions, why retire young? i'd get bored as fuck. keep your mind active, find new goals to achieve. even old retired people can find retirement boring.

Furious_Female 03-02-2007 01:10 PM

I don't know. I think young retirement will send you to an early grave. Personally, I don't think I'll ever fully retire. Not for the money but working keeps you young and alive. We work when we want now, sometimes 72 hours straight and other times an hour a week. We'll always be semi-retired, but I am a strong believer in staying on the ball, no matter what age.

If we want to travel or buy things now, we do it and go back to work... I love it. I love the freedom and I love working. When you're green, you're growing. When you're ripe, you rot!

I think we might be brothers, lol. That's exactly how I spend my days. I'm not retired either but I hardly work.

It's not that hard to occupy yourself for 16 hours/day... pick up a sport/hobby, read stuff, join some club, watch a movie every day... just use your imagination, and if all fails you can just start smoking some weed everyday...

last year i was only working 2 days a week, for the rest of the time, i would be sleeping or thinking of things to buy, or trying to figure out a way to make more money.

Not just posting but reading also, and lurking... also watching tv... and listening to music... those really are the biggest entertainments in my life :1orglaugh

It can take me a long time to review new things I want to buy, I read reviews for EVERYTHING now, even for things like shampoo, soap, household products, furniture, vacuum cleaners, clothes, I can spend hours on amazon.com and other review sites just figuring out what I want to buy.

thats a good point

my point wasn't real retirement though, it was the ability to make money with next to none work during a longer time period

if you are in such situation, you can either work normally just to grow your biz and occupy your time, or you may spend most of your time on some hobbies etc

that's true...
what i answered was under the assumption that "young and retired" = "millionaire who doesn't need to worry about money at all"

I hate talk shows, I only like reality tv shows. I watch em' a lot during the day.

chaze 03-04-2007 01:27 AM

No way retired but i ride street bikes, go to the gym, meet new girls, play xbox, work because I love it, go drinking with friends, travel, fix up my house, go out to lunch (subway or sushi usually), take dog to park or dog bar, work on computers and customized set ups, play poker. Next on the list is scuba diving, and setting up a hot tub and sauna at my house.

one eight 03-04-2007 02:06 AM

Travel. Costa Rica, Argentina, Brazil. Dance. Socialize. Have sex. Laugh. make more $.

CDSmith 03-04-2007 02:09 AM

I jerk off like 5 times a day.

It keeps me busy.

CDSmith 03-04-2007 02:13 AM

Don't know about the 'young' people.

:D

CDSmith 03-04-2007 02:32 AM

My goal was to retire from my full-time hosptal job by the age for 40.

I beat that goal by 3 years. :D

then WTF do you do all day?

I just met a guy in San Fran that is 30 and retired, he's just traveling for a couple years. He'll be down here Weds. :winkwink:

SleazyDream 03-04-2007 02:50 AM

how could they answer with what you defined?

Lykos 03-04-2007 03:52 AM

am still not retired,so cant answer:)

voa 03-04-2007 03:58 AM

Probably watching tv all they long.

polish_aristocrat 03-04-2007 04:01 AM

to clarify, this thread wasnt about me

i was asking basically two questions

what do the young retire people do all day? (ok, lets assume we are talking about multi millionaires )

what would you be doing if you were maiking a comfortable living with next to none work, but weren't really rich, so you couldn't spend your life in the same way as the "young retired millionaires"

eddie-executive 03-04-2007 04:29 AM

If your young and retired and dont do any type of work thats sad. I put these people in the same class as welfare bums. If your 20-50 and your not doing anything thats just plain weird if you ask me. Invest in real estate flip houses do something even part time.

Yeah if i had millions at my age now 29 id be "retired" but i'd still be productive and do some type of work.

Anybody who completely retires at a young age is just weak. 90% of the world works till they are 65+ and your sittin at home playin xbox off your porn wealth hahaha what a great contribution to society lol

If i had millions the stress of not having money would retire not my work ethic.

Ok back to playing ps3:1orglaugh

Boobs 03-04-2007 04:37 AM

Exactly the same, you dont have to own multi millions to be able to travel around, have friends and party every day.. and post on GFY :)

SmutGiant 03-04-2007 04:46 AM

I'd either get a job, go to school, or work on growing my business... or start a new business, or something like that...

An early retirement would just be boring as fuck... seriously... even if you did have millions just sitting in the bank, all that traveling, partying, shopping etc. would just get boring, and eventually, if the partying doesn't kill you anyways, you'll most likely end up having to work again :)

d00t 03-04-2007 04:48 AM

A pensions crisis is brewing. When we are old, there's gonna be a heck of a lot of old people around with no decent money coming in.

However, most of us are blessed since - properly structured - our reciprocal income will make a very nice "retirement":pimp

I don't like Jerry Springer at all :(

I like The Real Housewives of Orange County on Bravo and a show on mtv called The Hills...

Troels 03-04-2007 05:34 AM

I had a lot of money coming in at an early age through domains, which meant absolutely no work was needed. All I did was party, at the pool, watch sports and movies. That was basically it.

It was great fun, but at the same time extremely depressing. All I did was waiting for the next party, the next big game or movie.

Now I work a lot even though it's not really necessary.

There just isn't a greater feeling than getting an idea and watching it pay off after some hard work. I get excited by ideas that earn me $20 a day if I see growth.

And to answer your question, I did invest $ in more domains which today are worth a lot more than I bought them for. Even my absolutely worst buy ever seems like a good buy considering todays market.
