PHP-CODER-FOR-HIRE does horrible work

http://www.PHP-CODER-FOR-HIRE.com

Lol download his "free script" what a joke dude.

k0nr4d 03-02-2007 04:28 AM

what makes it a joke? some people need a counter like that

ffmihai 03-02-2007 04:31 AM

mad views....

Bozena X 03-02-2007 04:32 AM

I don't know where you get off basing somebodies skill on a free script for fun. No offense dude, but your a complete asshole for doing so. I would like to let everybody know that we are currently working with php-coder-for-hire on a project and we are more than satisfied with his level of skill and prompt project turnaround. So seriously dude, you need to fuck off with that shit.

JDog 03-02-2007 04:34 AM

What makes it bad, he ask the user to make a WHOLE directory 777. That's the major issue I see with the instructions. Just by that I would NEVER hire PHP-CODER-FOR-HIRE.

Big security hole. Just mho.

k0nr4d 03-02-2007 04:35 AM

I spoke with him on icq today, seemed like a good guy. I'm looking at the script, its not done badly or anything. There's shorter ways to do what hes doing it in but they require php5

2) In the "ss-counter" directory, change permissions of file "count.txt" to 777

^ thats from his instructions...

Damn I must be really tired. I must truly apologize, I misread it wrong. I don't know why I thought it said change permissions of "ss-counter" to 777.

Bozena X 03-02-2007 04:40 AM

This is completely ridiculous, laughable at best. Please reserve your opinions until you hire this man for a project.

Well when I misread the instructions I thought differently. But as anybody else that I would bring on for a project, I would just want to see prior code. Which is common. And no, not full code, just sample code.

EDIT: And that is just because everybody can claim their a PHP coder because they know the echo statement.

It is security hole but a lot of script require that. For example smarthumbs which is used by many webmaster require entire directory to be 777

Bro Media - BANNED FOR LIFE 03-02-2007 05:35 AM

wow you're a fucking idiot and this thread shows you're probably one of those assholes who know NOTHING about php and expect a whole site CMS to be written, ready to go, flawless, with zero bugs and handle 500k unique visitors a day without even making a blip on the servers radar, all in less then 3 hours

i would never do business with someone like you, its a fucking free script, you think hes gonna make some complex script for free to download when his whole website is about selling his services?

fucking idiot :321GFY

fris 03-02-2007 05:53 AM

serious business

The Duck 03-02-2007 06:03 AM

Anyone remember that thread I made about this coder the other day.

quantum-x 03-02-2007 06:20 AM

Famous one line solution

<?
file_put_contents('count.txt',file_get_contents('c ount.txt')+1)
?>

Adultnet 03-02-2007 08:17 AM

well as long his demo does the job its fine..

Calvinguy 03-02-2007 08:24 AM

I love scripts with no error handling

On another note, PHP-Coder-For-Hire has been working for me for the past 4-5 years, he does very good work and he's smarter, more skillful and reliable than 99% of the people I have met here.

borked 03-02-2007 11:46 AM

and for those who think chmod 0777 on a directory is a security risk are very much wrong. Sure, it is a security risk if you are on a shared server and every site runs as user nobody, but a LOT of scripts require directories to be writeable by the web server (and hence for large deployment, 0777 is the best solution).

for more info:

http://www.simplemachines.org/commun...php?topic=2987

and stop judging a person's programming abilities on a free download. Just because there are no OO classes, doesn't make someone a bad coder - it means they are making the classes php4/php5 compatible, because php4 OO support is shite!

borked 03-02-2007 01:01 PM

Splum you asshole -I actually just downloaded the file and htf can you judge someones ability on that? It is a free script after all?

BTW your 'thousands of users' must really be reading your mailing list messages, because business on my end is booming lol!

AK 03-02-2007 01:04 PM

i hired him to do small project for me, he did what he was supposed to do.
am asking him to do another project for me, and possibly another project down the lines. am happy with his skills and knowledge.

some people might have problems with his time delivery etc, i tried to understand what was really going on. did i wish he is more available and keeping his clients updated, yes. but that doesn't change the fact that he did a very good job on the script.

i may not know anything much about PHP, but for something liked to have done for me, he's my guy!

my two cents

nation-x 03-02-2007 01:07 PM

$65/hour average? I work full time for a major affiliate program and don't make that... If you look at the Zend website there is an article on there currently that lists the average salaries in cities all over the country and none of them make that much. If you pay this guy $65/hour you are a sucker and deserve to get shit code for being an idiot.

There is no need to make it 777, 666 would suffice, but come on guys, lets give him a break... it's a 5 line bs script, he probably put together in 5mins...

heh, dude. Contract rate != Fulltime Rate. I do contract as well, and the reason we charge more is because we don't get paid for our downtime. If you want to live off contract work, you have to charge 60-100/hr unless you are in thailand or something.

I think good rule of thumb is freelance work is 2x of what similar work fulltime would cost, so if he was working fulltime he would make $32.5/hr = about $65k/year... which is a very fair price for a competent php programmer...

Also 777ing a directory IS NOT a security risk unless you are on an improperly configured shared server. The only way somebody can change your files is if they have access to your server. People should educate themselves before they pass judgement.

That's in a perfect world without XSS, SQL and REQUEST var injections.

k0nr4d 03-02-2007 02:07 PM

you mean in a world with strip_tags(), mysql_real_escape_string(), and global variables disabled? There's ways around these of course but that covers most of the bases

PHP-CODER-FOR-HIRE 03-02-2007 02:08 PM

1) There are shorter ways to do this, but it requires PHP5; something a lot of people still don't have. I wasn't about to do error handling for an undefined function for a 10-line script. PHP5 does what PHP4 did and more, so it's usually good to code for PHP4, especially when you don't know what version they're running.

2) It's a free script that was put there to get traffic from HotScripts.com. Notice the "SUPER SIMPLE" part of the title, also.

3) Even thought I told the user to CHMOD the file to 777, it's not a security hole. All you have to lose is one number. Woopty shit. And that is only if you're on shared virtual hosting. 777 on a Directory isn't a security risk EITHER if there's nothing there to lose. The counter is in its own directory ANYWAY.

4) Yes, 666 would work, but it's not nearly as common as 777, and anyone from HotScripts would probably feel better just checking all the boxes off instead of all but three. Many FTP programs do not show the actual number you're setting it to.

5) http://www.php-coder-for-hire.com/projects/ <-- you can find some recent projects there. All valid CSS and XHTML, all very quick scripts, and most importantly, all very customizable for the end user to make it fit/look like wherever/whatever they want

6) It's a free script....and you're a moron!

7) I'm not a minor... I'm 20 years old, and anyone who hired me before I was 18 (alchemist for example), did so for mainstream work.

SPLUM:
======

You are quite possibly the worst person on GFY to date (and there are a lot to chose from). That non-business thread you are talking about was at 3AM on a Thursday night, and only because someone had posted a very similar video.

Maybe some time you can hire me for a project and THEN if you aren't happy comment about the quality. There have been a couple people on here with some understandable complaints about me: time issues, deadlines, organizational skills, or telling them I can't do their projects for them.

NEVER has any client EVER said anything wrong about the quality of the code, or how well it works.

Does that counter count? YES.

Is that counter easy to install? YES.

Is that counter simple? YES.

Is that counter compatible with PHP4? YES.

Are there easier ways to make that script? YES (but not for PHP4)

Should I put error handling into that script? ABSOLUTELY NOT. It isn't worth it, and if a user has an error, it would be hard to troubleshoot if they can't see what the error is.

Thank you to all the people who backed me up in this thread, especially the fellow programmers and current & past clients.

I must not be doing such a horrible job if I keep getting repeat business even AFTER serious time delays.

Pete-KT 03-02-2007 02:11 PM

he has done plenty of scripts for us without a problem, what do you have against the guy?

k0nr4d 03-02-2007 02:13 PM

Also worth mentioning that a majority of adult companies I have encountered are on PHP4

Explanation accepted, thats all you had to do instead of offering a free 10 line script with potential security risks. Also maybe you should think about what the word "business" means. If you think I would hire you after the shit you say about my country you are seriously misguided. Then again you dont care I am sure, and thats just fine and dandy with me. You are the one trying to get "hired" you shouldnt alienate potential customers with your rants.
