Can anyone recommend a good interior designer in LA?

I just got the keys to this place.
http://www.edenhillhouse.com

I have a little bit of furniture I am going to keep from my old place, but I am pretty much going to start from scratch. I need help with mostly space planning, furniture selection and some decorating. I have no clue about even how to get started looking for someone like this.

Can anyone help me out?

My girlfriend is an interior designer. She's not in LA but she's fucking awesome! She just moved into my house. We pretty much finished it anyway but she has "big plans" for the house :)

How far are you from Kimmy Kim? She'll help you out - and possibly get you some good deals on furniture too :)

Get a wife to pop out some kids and they will decorate it for you lol. More expensive but more rewarding.

i can shower the walls with cum for you if you like, it isn't the most pleasant smell, but it definitely gives the place a nice pearly color

Hey Peaches, where have you been hiding? :)

It is true, I was an interior designer before there was an internet, and actually had one of the first three furniture stores online... way before it's time though, porn paid better in the late 90s so I canned the furniture and stuck with adult.

Right now in a house having the interior painted that would make a decorator (or anyone, really) just say "OMG". :)

My interior designer SIL has completely given up on me. But I like bright colors :)

You should come and visit - bring the kid and bf. GA misses you!

Funny, my girlfriend is giving up the porn to do the Interior Designing... How times have changed eh? There's a lot of money to be made in that line of business nowadays...

Jay,

Here is what you need to do. Have you been to the Pacific Design Center yet? It's the best in the country and right in West Hollywood. There are thousands of things to see and they'll help you find a designer. Here is the site:
http://www.thepacificdesigncenter.com/

more info about their referral service:
http://www.thepacificdesigncenter.co...gnservices.htm

Go through a ton of portfolios to find just the style of designer you want.

good luck!

marc

i thought about that but actually enjoyed taking my time over 2 years and getting all the right stuff for my house.

no one else can really pick what you want

Ooooh - that's the place on Top Designer (or whatever it's called). I could go crazy in a place like that :)

But I have so much crap crammed into my tiny house that my painter has put everything in the center of the rooms and still can barely reach the walls :(

seeric 03-01-2007 01:37 PM

theres got to be some hot piece of snizz at any one of the local establishments that we frequent. i'll keep my eye out.

Very Good suggestion Marc! The Pacific Design Center is world renowned and has a lot of amazing (and expensive) pieces. The center is even being featured on the Bravo Tv Show Top Design. Plus, the general public rarely has access to the PDC so getting an interior designer gets you in!

CC 03-01-2007 01:52 PM

I don't know about you, but I personally enjoy doing the interior decorating myself. IMO, you get much more satisfying results that way. I recommend watching some HGTV shows (Designed to Sell, Divine Design, Freestyle, Designer's Challenge, Design on a Dime--just to name a few!) to see if you're at all interested in that sort of thing! It's very fufulling! You can always hire people to do the grunt work if that's not your thing (i.e. painting, tiling, etc.).

Great call, Marc.

Before I was a porn slinger I worked with some of the top interior designers in LA and their clients. Spent a lot of time at the PDC.

That's probably the best lead I have so far. Did you use them for your new place?

jgabra62 03-01-2007 02:46 PM

There is a great company called AGD Designs. The owners names are Ace and Gary...check them out - AGD Design

chaze 03-01-2007 02:51 PM

I hear it, I need one down in OC too, A design place would cool here but I hate over paying for things.

Jay,

I didn't use them, but my wife and I are really into Interior Design, so naturally we know about the PDC. It's very well known nationally and every interior designer in the area would have a connection to it in some way.

Just a great place to start your exploration.

And someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but there are two types of designers...

Interior Designers
Educated in design concept and production. Often work in architectural firms or with them. Used in higher end design that isn't just "what bowl would look good on this table". Look at the big picture instead of just room by room. This is who I would seek out if you want a really nice interior space.

Interior Decorators
aka "Martha Stewart" type people. They spend alot of time looking at magazines to try and copy what others have already done. Not necessarily educated. Cheaper and dirty solution to "spruce the place up". Often what you see running around on those HGTV cookie-cutter shows. There are some high end ones, but for the most part, dime a dozen.

My SIL is an interior designer. They have to learn all kinds of things like ADA specs and stuff. She has a degree and still has to take a class and test every year or two to keep her license.

I think she cries a little bit when she comes to visit me. :thumbsup

take your time or you will be pissing allot of money away for nothing

here is what you should do

dont waste money on magazines to find different homes and room styles for a few bucks you get a membership to getdecorating.com and you can see 1000's of pics of peoples rooms they break it down by bedrooms, living rooms, outdoor space, office, etc real great

get a picture in your head on how you want things to look then you go online and look for sites that sell the items seriously the same sofa can cost on one site 500 and on another 5000 and on ebay brand new from a furniture store 250

the key is to get a picture in your head of how you want it to look and getdecorating will give you a million ideas

EscortBiz 03-02-2007 05:25 AM
