Do you pay your models with cash or a check?
 

Just curious. I prefer to pay with a check, but most prefer cash and I usually give it.

If you give them a check then you havent paid them until they actually cash it.

So if they dont cash it then you dont have a valid model release.

So always pay cash.

I tend to pay by check. They will sometimes say, "I don't have an account with a bank," to which I reply, "This would be a good check to open one with."

In some cases, the girls need cash fast, or it's after 6 on Friday or some shit like that, and in that case I may walk with them to the nearest ATM and get some cash for them. In that case, I like them to note on the release that such and such and amount was received on that date.

I always pay cash after the shoot. I print up a receipt and I make her sign it for my records, then she gets cash.

It's really simple -- cut them a check and then after they sign it, cash it for them, deposit it back in your bank.

Three times I've had girls give me hard luck stories and talk me into prepaying a shoot, full or partial, and in two cases I never saw them again. The other girl is as honest as can be. Anyway, based on past experience, it'd be hard to pry the money out of my dead fingers even if they killed me for it.

I deposit directly into their bank accounts. I make sure that they all have accounts in the same bank as my company and then just point and click.

Everyone has a cash card now a days :-)

Always pay by check. This is proof that you've paid them. If you pay cash - no matter what you have them sign - they can come back and say you didn't pay them.
