HOLY FUCK - *denied the mortgage because of what I do for a living*

Was pre-approved, offer accepted, subject to financing, inspections etc...

Fuckers denied me, they searched my phone number on google and it came back with some pornographic sites.

I'm steaming. Some ethical shit they say!

wdsguy 02-28-2007 05:05 PM

shoulda put a number that is not connected to yo sites.

BradM 02-28-2007 05:06 PM

That has to be illegal. I'd get a lawyer asap.

mn 02-28-2007 05:06 PM

I have no idea of the laws but is that really legal? In my country it would be illegal 100% sure to deny for that reason.

Makingcoin 02-28-2007 05:08 PM

My money isn't as good as a fucking doctors? WTF

I don't think so. Being a pronographer is not a protected minority. You can't deny somebody something based on race, religion, etc .. But you can absolutely do it based on what you feel is ethical. :2 cents:

And that is exactlly what they said. My profession is not ethical.

Jman 02-28-2007 05:11 PM

That sucks bro, hope you can find someone else to help you out.

aico 02-28-2007 05:12 PM

Contact the news, tell them the story, they'll run it, be sure to have them say your sites, you'll get mad traffic and sales, and you won't need the loan.

Thanks Jman. Calling a few other banks now. At least the mortgage specialist is understanding. She has everything is a nice package for me for the next bank I decide to deal with.

Yeah, it's bullshit, but I doubt it's illegal.

cyberstar 02-28-2007 05:13 PM

wtf.. since when do banks google phone numbers??!!

TheLegacy 02-28-2007 05:13 PM

they can do that, banks have turned down seed money for adult sites and companies many times - there are ways around it but not in an open forum

Dude, you probably have access to one of the best resources around for this .. Talk to Mark, he's got the hook up. :)

Mr Pheer 02-28-2007 05:13 PM

Most people kinda know to not have porn directly related to them. Dont tell your bank what you do either or you just may get your account closed suddenly.

Just write this experiance off as a lesson learned the hard way. Go buy a different house, and use a different title & financing company.

aico 02-28-2007 05:14 PM

it's not illegal if they have a sign that says "We Reserve the Right to Refuse Service to Anyone" up in their office.

Your money is dirty!

Pleasurepays 02-28-2007 05:16 PM

most US retail banks have internal rules about types of business they will not associate themselves with - gambling and porn are always at the top of the list. that doesn't mean that people/accounts don't slip through the cracks for a while, or that in the case of my bank (Key Bank Private Banking) - they don't turn a blind eye as long as you are not processing porn of gambling transactions with a merchant account through them or something obvious that they can't ignore.

no one should be suprised that a US retail bank doesn't want anything to do with them or their money if you are in porn, gaming etc. its not personal, its often hypocritical and its just life.

jacked 02-28-2007 05:16 PM

seems like some bullshit to me, don't most lenders just check to see the length of time you've been with the employer/company the length of time that employer/company has been in business and the period of time in which you've been steadily collecting a pay check.

Quote:

AIL: Banking is traditionally considered a conservative industry. In your experience, will people working in the adult industry have problems obtaining financing?

Campbell: Being employed in the adult industry does not impose any additional difficulty in obtaining financing. However, people in the adult industry have different needs than most consumers. For example a high percentage of your income is likely to be derived by market volume and fluxuate from month-to-month. A high percentage of people in the adult industry are self-employed. The client might even be in a position where they are earning a strong income, but don't want to document it because of tax strategies. In such a situation, a bank may not be willing to get you financing while we can.

Yea dude, i'd get a lawyer

R

sexsitemoney 02-28-2007 05:19 PM

maybe after you sue them you wont need financing

Snake Doctor 02-28-2007 05:37 PM

wow that's fucked up

Kenny B! 02-28-2007 05:40 PM

That is bullshit you should go to a different bank or take these assholes to court

WiredGuy 02-28-2007 05:41 PM

I think its perfectly legal to deny you for it, they don't want to be associated with porn, but with that said, just get a different phone number and apply with another lender.

No it doesn't. What authority is a private banker exercising over you by refusing your business? Absolutely none. It's a free market, you're free to go elsewhere, and they're free to pick and choose their customers. You have no guarantee by law to bank loans!

evildick 02-28-2007 05:48 PM

What bank was it? You are in Canada, right?

Lance69 02-28-2007 05:48 PM

Jim_Gunn 02-28-2007 05:50 PM

You shoulda used a different phone number, like a home phone that isn't related to your business. Or, if you were thinking quickly, just should have acted like you had no idea what they were talking about and said that musta been the last person that had that phone number. Oh well, GFY is a great resource, I am sure someone knows a hungry agent that will work with you. Of course, use a different phone number with the bank now.

natas 02-28-2007 05:54 PM

damn that sucks. sorry to hear that :(

Trixxxia 02-28-2007 05:56 PM

Yeah I'd like to know what bank it was too.
Now, one of the things I can tell you is this - if it's not your bank/branch and you went through a little known mortgage broker, I think it's normal.

If it's your main bank/branch with account managers that know you and it was declined, I'd start changing banks.

When choosing a mortgage broker, get references from the biggest RealEstate Agents in the area on who the does most of their mortgages.
The more business the mortgage broker does, the more clout she/he has with the banks (banks want to keep them happy and sending business).

That is 100% correct

Peaches 02-28-2007 05:59 PM

What would you sue them for? "They won't let me borrow their money"??! Pornographers aren't a protected minority.

As others have said, use a different number - problem solved.

Are you a retard or what.
Let me tell you how things works.

If some hotshoot in that bank understands what you do for a living and you are a customer and runs a fucking christian newspaper or whatever and write about it.

What the fuck do you think will happen to that bank? They will lose customers just because of you.

Rather to quit 1 customer loose to make 10 others satisified.
Its bizniz.

baddog 02-28-2007 06:05 PM

just Googled my phone numbers just to see . . . . I am clean

huey 02-28-2007 06:05 PM

Coin hit me up if you need a good mortgage broker. I know guys that will jump on this like a fat kid on a smarty.

Sosa 02-28-2007 06:07 PM

wow that really sucks. good luck finding a bank that will accept you bro.

born2blog 02-28-2007 06:08 PM

I don't understand how they can legally get away with that

tony286 02-28-2007 06:08 PM

that sux but thats why I have some mainstream sites set up to answer the what do you do question. Also all info are gif's so they cant be searched.

Matt 26z 02-28-2007 06:18 PM

It might not be just an ethics policy on their end. They may view adult income as being potentially unstable.

JP-pornshooter 02-28-2007 06:21 PM

just buy something you can afford to buy in cash, problem solved...or find other bankroller..

Just FYI.....by happenstance, I used the broker who was the subject of that interview - not because of the interview, just a coincidence.
But if anyone is thinking about calling him after reading the interview........you might want to think again.

Seriously, some of my clients are mortgage brokers. If I can recommend someone for you I will.
I can't believe that in this market, with new home sales down 2% and 50% in the western states!
Idiots.

xNetworx 02-28-2007 06:57 PM

Definately contact an attorney

warlock5 02-28-2007 07:01 PM

Call Fox News, they love stuff, especially Bill O'Reilly. They'll probably plug your sites and forget to censor parts of it.
