Why don't they teach martial arts in public school?
 

One of the best things I ever did was take Kung Fu for 4 years. My body was fucking in amazing shape, my mind was clear, I was courteous to people (long time ago, that shit wore off obviously).

I think some form of martial arts should be required in elementary, get these fat fucking lazy kids in shape, give them some self-esteem, bullying would be less effective, kids would have more respect for themselves and others.

Seems like a good idea to me.

of course its a good idea..My guess would be thats why nothing like that would ever happen..our kids are taught meaningless bullshit that has allowed our country to get to where it is today..

all kids on my basketball team can say the plegde of allegiance but most of them cant even tie there own shoes..8-10 year old boys..80-90% of them are lost in space..the plan by the true powers of the world is quite evedent here folks..stupid,dumbed down population doesnt make waves as they slowly are manipulated towards a new world order..look around its happening now..and most including the older people are asleep at the wheel..

Why not just concentrate on the three "R"s

I'm asking cuz it's not a usual positions of things here... kids here understand everything and they are visiting to gym, watching for their shape and etc. So we are in better ways for our health then you.

My mom put me in martial arts ( kuk sool wan ) starting in the 4th grade because I had ADD and was getting way too hyper. Did it through freshmen year of high school before I discovered grass and mushrooms. I have to concur that doing something active like that did wonders for me.

I'm not knocking grass and mushrooms, those did stuff to me too, but just not in the same way as a physical activity.

Even though that is true I bet it would still require extra insurance and the headache of some kid's parents complaining if one of their kids gets beaten up by a move taught at the school.

American public schools are a relic of the manufacturing age. It is geared towards making good factory line workers, not turning out empowered, intelligent, thinking individuals. Luckily a few of those smart ones survive public school and go on to lead productive lives or we would be screwed.

What about wrestling, football, soccer, lacrosse? Those are all very high contact sports that are allowed.

I thought it was farmers? That is after all why there is summer break, so kids could be home to help with the harvest.

i disagree..it is designed to turn out mall rats that think for some reason they are superior to people of other countries..when in reality we are all the same..

I think that'd be an awesome idea as long as they required instructors with real credentials. There's way too many many Cobra Kai and Billy Bob dojos out there. Bad martial arts training is worse than no martial arts training. In Japanese high schools, some form is usually required (mostly kendo or judo).

I think it's a choice that a parent should make. If you send your child to martial arts classes, then you'll have one elite kid.

I've got a great idea...put down the remote and get your kids off the computer. I used to work at a camp and I'd say that at least 60% of the kids that I met said that when they go home after school they go straight to the computer and geek out on vids until dinner and then the do the same after dinner. And then they wonder why they can't throw a ball or ride a bike or don't have any friends. I'm not saying that watching tv and playing video games is bad, but it must be in moderation. There is no excuse for a parent to let their kid sit in front of a screen for hours when it is hot and sunny out. Get outside and play and get dirty...be a kid. They have many years ahead of them to sit in front of a computer for 8 or 10 hours a day.

Parents these days don't really make the best choices for their kids. It's not the kids fault that they are fat and lazy, the parents made the choice to allow them to be that way.

There is a problem with the educational system all over the place right now.

i agree teaching martial arts would be a great thing, but lots of parents would consider it too violent or something.

i always find it amazing that "i have problems with authority to the point that i desperately need therapy" is always rationalized as "i think for myself and you don't" and "you're just sheep"
