The Cuba Debacle (a must read)
The Cuba Debacle?read it here:
http://www.xxxjay.com Over the past couple months I?ve been slacking on my blog posts. Frankly, I was getting tired of writing the same repetitious drink, drugs, fuck hookers / sluts shit I?d became famous for. All of that changed this week in Cuba. This story is so fucked up that even at its bloated 2500+ words, it is a must read. http://www.xxxjay.com Also on myspace: http://blog.myspace.com/index.cfm?fu...iendID=2394918 |

"As much as I hate to say it: The Cuban people are very stupid. They walk exist day to day like Zombies on Xanax waiting ? on their pensions. I guess it is the nature of Marxist communism. The lady that takes change for the bathroom makes the same as a brain surgeon, maybe more! Why should anyone aspire to anything? Cubans have no motivation to do anything for anyone?including themselves!"
They are not stupid, just have no weapons to revolt. As you said 3 police for every 10 men women and children. The MP get food for their children, I would do the same. I am still reading. |

sounds like a fucked up place for a tourist.

Even bad publicity is good they say. Let's go to a Cliffs Notes version of your trip.
You went to Cuba. You were hassled by a communist country's airport security. You cried when they wanted to check your bags and separated from your friend. You ran out of money. The people there are stupid. The women are not pretty. The food sucks. You thought/wished the island was full of great food and cheap good looking women..where you could take advantage. You will never go back again until the US takes over and makes it a better place for YOU! What bullshit. |
Cuba is a filthy Communist country. The U.S. should go in there, wipe out the entire population along with it's goverment and turn that place in Gambling Central, USA. Right now Cuba is only a nice place to live if you are a rat.

You have no cell phone service." http://www.internetcash.com/en/images/baby-crying.jpg |
Jay must admit I enjoyed your post. I was considering the trip, now I am not so sure.
Cuba WAS a place of dreamers in the 1970's many people thought it was a paradise. I have not heard that said for years but your experience tops all the stories I have heard. |

I have loved ones there that are captured. FUCK YOU:mad: |
I've only read down to the picture of bush so far and I've already come up with some conclusions.
1. You're a millionaire....You should have had THOUSANDS of dollars already in your pocket...Believing that a visa card would work AT ALL in cuba was faulty. 2. If you're not willing to fight, don't go to third world countries and hanging out with the locals...Handing over money to anybody for some cigars is faulty...I was in Lagos, Nigeria once in a neighborhood I've never been in where they were selling counterfeit money...Once they came with the money, I calmly pulled out my real money, showed them the difrerence between the two and why their money was bullshit, and I got up to leave... now back to reading..... |
you are lucky to come back from there dude :)
|
ok the rest of it was only a few paragraphs...
3. Don't go somewhere like that without at least taking a basic class in spanish...I did it before I went on an excursion in southern mexico...Showing up with an english/spanish dictionary only is faulty. Conclusion...If things went better with your cashflow situation, you would've had a much better time there..Your judgement of the people is clouded with your money experience....It sucks to be poor in ANY country...You just got a small taste of what it was like... I advise you go back with at least 5k in your pocket and try again.... |
Tons of British holiday makers go there every year. I don't know what would be expected and I guess it does show that there are places where money isn't going to buy you an easy ride when the people there have far more to think about than if an American tourist had a good time.
|
Jay, you're a good writer but I would have expected a little more from a sex tourist like you. Interrogations? That's just so... Pass the US border from Mexico some day without looking too American and see what stupidity and arrogance you encounter. A little more planning when it comes to cash would have been appropriate too... And don't think everything is so damn dangerous! (Or did you just do that to spice up the story?)
|
This concerns me since I'm getting married in Cuba next month!
|
I am will not stop bumping this thread untill you come clean.
"And don't think everything is so damn dangerous! (Or did you just do that to spice up the story?)" |
props to you and JC just for venturing into that cUntry. don't think i'd have the balls to do it
|
i heard about this the last night of costa rica. glad you're ok. i woulda went through it with you guys if i coulda. life is a risk, more people need to live it as such. sounds like something out of The Amazing Race, the fucked up version. live large. see you soon.
meowwwwwwww. |

I personally wouldn't have even started a thread showing pictures of me within a country that the US has an embargo on. |
You just never go to Cuba blindly and unprepared. Also is a good idea to go with at least one person fluent in Caribbean Spanish.... a Cuban or Cuban-American, Puerto Rican, or Dominican.
|
Damn that sounds like hell!
|
Should have responded to my post about you going. My mother in law lives there, and you could have rented a room from her for 25$ a night.

I have been 5 times, 1 time by myself, and I dont speak spanish at all. And I had no problems.
|
Sorry to hear that Jay, kinda surprised though, my brother and his wife went there for a couple of weeks and had a good time.
|
I have been to Cuba 5 times. I love it there, and you dont need 5k to have a good time. with less than 1k you can have a nice time. Now I will admit that the hotels are not cheap.
I have never had an issue with the police or immigration or anyone there, and the COPS are NOT on the take. NOt any more than any one else that is buying on the black market. The people also DO care if you the american or TOURIST in general have a good time. They want to make you happy, so that you will come back, as well as tip them. |

I'll be down there April 3-17 can you hook me and my wife up? Seriously! |
xxxjay: I always thought you were a relatively smart person, but by reading this thread, I have realized that either the excess of weed smoking has scrambled your brain, or you didn't have much of it to begin with.
Cuba is a communist country, were drugs and porn are HIGHLY illegal. So if you go in there looking like someone that uses drugs who is in search of cheap pussy (which you do look like, sorry to say), of course they are going to take a second and even a third look at you. Personally, I'm glad this happened to you. Secondly, Cubans are very smart people, with a level of education comparable to Europe (needless to say, higher than what you commonly find in America), and they are the furthest from zombies that you can find. Cubans are happy, party-oriented people, who make jokes out of every situation, and who enjoy life no matter how difficult the surrounding environment is. Unfortunately they have no means to fight the government, and despite the fact that I am against Fidel, the way they live is not that terrible. Every body eats, every body goes to school and has medical attention, and every body has a job if they want to. As per their motivation to get an education, let's say that they are so smart that they get college degrees just for the heck of it, even though the bathroom lady makes more than a doctor. |

You know, as bad as that story is and despite the fact that it was probably some of the worst days of your life; I'm sure that in a few years you will look back on the whole situation and laugh your ass off. That's a pretty good story to be able to tell.
I had a similar experience in Prague once. I know how you must have felt when you were being interrogated. It's like the freedom that you once took for granted has all of a sudden been taken from you before you even had a chance to say goodbye to it. |
