Needs text or buttons or something on the sides, where the lines fade out.

I would start by losing those two big ugly buttons down the bottom and try using a bit more contrast in the whole colour scheme,eg~if you want to stick with just blue then try using different shades to make your design stand out more.Maybe even throw another colour into your logo to make it look a bit more lively.Cheers.
