Help me test this servers speed please

Please download all or part of this file
http://www.amateurcleavage.com/10mb.bin

and tell me what kind of download speed you get. Also please tell me what kind of speed you normally get so I'll have a benchmark to compare to. (Is this faster than normal, slower than normal, or just normal)

Thanks in advance for your help.

tical 02-25-2007 10:03 PM

about 370 KB/sec

i have a 10mbit downstream (max about 1.2mb / sec)

baddog 02-25-2007 10:06 PM

started at 270k, went progressively down to 199 at end

Helix 02-25-2007 10:12 PM

238kb per sec - normal for me

Jace 02-25-2007 10:14 PM

pretty slow for me 150/kbsec

SmokeyTheBear 02-25-2007 10:14 PM

about avrg here for net download 150

heres a video from nastydollars to test against . yours is actually a bit faster than nastydollars

Mutt 02-25-2007 10:20 PM

370 kb/sec which is average for me - sometimes i get 400-500 kb/sec but i am never sure if it's because there are less people on my cable network or if it's a faster host/site i'm downloading from.

Yeah I can understand that.
My DSL is really finicky so when things are slow I'm never sure if it's my connection or the server.
We just setup a new cluster with a load balancer so I'm trying to get as big of a sample as I can to see if it's fast enough.

Damian_Maxcash 02-25-2007 10:26 PM

176 in the UK on 10mb cable.

Not great, but about the same speed I get from download.com

borked 02-26-2007 12:52 AM

390KB/sec on a 100mbit interface to fatpipe uplink...
webair should be giving faster speed than that...

It's load balancing, although that IP number is where the site was yesterday, it's on a totally different block now.

Weird that you were able to download the file but still get the old IP on the tracert.

Makingcoin 02-26-2007 01:05 AM

Average 400

Almost the same numbers for me as well. I am on a cable connection normally averge around 400-600k

sexykat 02-26-2007 01:41 AM

Slow for me at 1.2mb/sec... usual is 5-6mb/sec. I have a 60mbit down connection.

tgpmakers 02-26-2007 04:42 AM

From the UK about 90k there's some dodgy routes from here.

chaze 02-26-2007 04:44 AM

i get 180ish about average for me.

VicD 02-26-2007 05:10 AM

around 125 kb/sec

Konda 02-26-2007 05:16 AM

Only 240KB/sec. I'm on a 100Mbit. It's pretty slow if I compare it to other sites.

MaDalton 02-26-2007 05:55 AM

about 160 kbit/s - i've seen faster

Snake Doctor 02-26-2007 09:32 AM

bump for the day shift

Snake Doctor 02-26-2007 02:54 PM

bump, help a brutha out please

sextoyking 02-26-2007 03:16 PM

Hi Lenny,

D/L is around 300-310k per sec. On a 8meg down cable modem connection - comcast - Portland, OR.

Normally get around 700-900k down or so..

thanks

Todd

SpeakEasy 02-26-2007 03:53 PM

Pretty slow here about 180kb Way below the average I typically get.:(

StarkReality 02-26-2007 04:05 PM

Around 170kb it maxes out for me, about half of my normal download speed....

Wiredoctor 02-26-2007 04:34 PM

About 230kb/s here which is pretty slow compared to the normal. It might not be your new equipment but rather webair's network? or maybe a combination of both, regardless it is a very slow download speed.:2 cents: :2 cents:

GrouchyAdmin 02-26-2007 04:54 PM

Jumps around like a methwhore with crabs here. Started at 200k, then down to 47, up to 55, down to 35... and no, I have no traffic shaping - dedicated 1Mbit ADSL.

Snake Doctor 02-26-2007 05:01 PM

Ok guys thanks for all the input.

For the record this url is currently on cogent, which is one of the reasons I wanted a test.
We'll be switching it back to Webair's tier 1 network for sure

Boss Traffic Jim 02-26-2007 05:05 PM

Appears to be very slow here, I got 210 KB/S and thats on fast cable. If I were a dial up or dsl surfer I would close the window and move on. :2 cents: :2 cents:

Let us know when you make this "Switch" then we can test it again. I was under the assumption that webair used mostly cogent for it's outgoing bandwidth. They have a fe providers in their mix, but I would guess they push most traffic through cogent, but thats just my guess based on some traces I've seen on sites they host.:2 cents:

You have to specifically request cogent in order to have your traffic go through it. It's on a totally separate network.

They have more providers in their tier 1 mix than just about anyone else I've seen.

I wanted to test cogent because obviously it's alot cheaper, but based on what I've seen here I'll stick with the good stuff :winkwink:

You obviously do not know very much about peering bandwidth.:2 cents: But hey as long as you are happy that's what counts.
