Any of you make a living off of one paysite?

Is it worth it to try these days? Or do you need a whole line of sites in order to make good money?

I have no idea the income possibilites of a brand new site without lots of $$$ to promote it.

why dont you keep your job and use some of that income to build your site(s) and promote them =D ... then quit when you've made a gob of dough.

Thinking about customer service mostly. Someone needs to be there to answer emails and the phone.

doesn't matter if you have 1 or 100 sites..if you don't know how to market a paysite you're just wasting your time... harsh but true :)

Dax 08-05-2002 08:30 PM

the phone?? ?? ?? :helpme

gothweb 08-05-2002 08:33 PM

I currently live off of two paysites. However, I do not live *well*. We only get 1,000ish hits a day, so that is to be exptected. Still working on making enough to live normally. Someone with more marketing knowhow than I have could easily live off of one paysite.

Answer the phone? I spend maybe two hours a week on customer/technical service, and all of it is in email.

yup.

There should be a ratio of how many new sites open, then fail and close down

archer 08-05-2002 08:52 PM

businesses can fail for a variety of reasons - not the least of which can be management incompetence.

Still... it would be interesting to hear stories/reasons why some websites have made it and others have gone down in flames.

the majority of paysite owners are lacking of:

creativity
basic marketing skills
traffic and of course signups

There's a trend lately to see many webmasters opening paysites or even working on big sponsor programs while they fail to earn some good money from others good converting programs.

Sorry but if you can't make money from your own, don't except from others to make money for you from your paysites because you spend few grands on them dreaming the sky.......

I'm about to open two paysites soon, but they won't have a webmaster program at least for several months.

no doubt. and yes, 1 paysite can be huge, if you have all the variables set correctly, and know what the fuck you are doing. trust me.

open one and while you are building it push traffic to it and other recurring programs. Buidl it up before you start a webmaster program. You need an established brand name for webmasters to promote. If you build it and throw it out there before you have a name and all the bugs worked out then webmasters are going to give it up and get on here and bash it.

The only way you will learn what works and what does it is by trying it and seeing the results.

one word: upsell

VoodooMachine 08-05-2002 10:09 PM

quality exit traffic.

That'll put the lining back in your wallet.

Yep. :thumbsup

We're pretty damned new in the adult world but we had a great customer following from the mainstream game stuff we've done over the past few years. We were able to take that and spin it into a very profitable adult software pay site.

I'm surprised actually because I thought it would take more time than this to really get going, and we haven't even kicked into high gear with advertising yet. Our traffic is fairly low still but I guess word of mouth from happy customers in the past has really paid off this time. :D

We've got more sites coming but to answer your question if we weren't taking in profits from anything we have out there in the mainstream world we could live pretty nice just on what Strip Kittens has been doing so far.

Depends on what your goals are and whether you are getting 1, 10 or 100 signups a day.
