Cop in our mail

My seen a cop going in our mailbox, so he went out the front door. The cop jumped in his car and took off.

WTF? Anyone had this happen?

baddog 02-22-2007 12:44 PM

I would be reporting that shit, should call now, can't be that many out there.

Sounds like someone is trying to steal checks or something to do identity theft with. Just because they are cops does not put them above the law, and there is no excuse for a cop to be going thru ANYONE"S mailbox

I had a cop friend, and as he said, "I am paid to enforce the law, not obey it"

goodgirl 02-22-2007 12:52 PM

We did, they say it was the Sheriff out serving people. They said he was checking to see if he was at the right address but he wasn't.

Not sure why he didn't just come to the door and ask.

tampering with the mail doesnt have excuses other than a warrant..

Report this to your postal inspector.

goodgirl 02-22-2007 01:03 PM

Does seem messed up that he took off as soon as my husband went out the door. And he took off fast.

goodgirl 02-22-2007 01:33 PM

Made a complaint with the Postal inspector too.

NinjaSteve 02-22-2007 02:43 PM

Maybe he was mall security?

ayne468 02-22-2007 02:57 PM

That is the such a stupid thing to do in the first place (take off I mean)...did he forget he was wearing a uniform! It reminds me of this guy on one of those police/ crime shows...he was the security guard of a shop and he decided one day to go and rob it. You could see it all on the cameras. First he came in with a paper bag on his head, but he forgot to cut eye holes and went around bumping into everything. Then he left, and came back after having cut out the eye holes, however he didn't realise that the whole time he had been wearing his security guard uniform, which he had forgotten to take off! What a dumb fuck!!!!!!!!!!:1orglaugh

W0w, that's severe. Now it would be interested to find out if he was in a mission or did it from a personal impulse forgetting he was wearing cop clothes.

They do that all the time here. They have to have visual verification that the person in question resides at that address. Now that Bush passed his new law they can read it too....

Did he "read" the mail box or "open" the mail box!

He can read it all he wants to. He just can't open it without a warrant or probable cause(like he smelled weed in the mail box).

He could open the lid of a public mail box like on the street corner though, but that's not really "opening" it since no one can take anything out that way.

crockett 02-22-2007 04:06 PM

Yea make a official complaint to the postal inspector. Even if you were a target, the only public law enforcement that can legally check your mail in the US post office. Some local sheriff has no legal right to do so.

Gotta agree baddog. There are good cops and bad cops, just like with anything else. Not all of them are "pigs", Tassy.

He was going through it, when my husband walked out the door he jumped in his car and took off. I have no clue if he took anything or not.

Do people send weed through the US mail?
