Full timers: Was it rough to quit your job and go into this full time?
or was it a peice of cake for all of you?
Thinking about it and getting close to taking the plunge, but scared as fuck to leave the security of a paycheck. I make more with porn than I do at my job, but it's real nice to have that check when I'm having a bad week of sales. When do you know you're ready to quit and go into biz for yourself full time? |
Nope had the same job before I entered porn :)
|
when you are ready to work much harder...

I got no money when i quit the day job. I only spend time on msg boards and chat rooms . my girlfriend feeds me.

Personally, I wouldnt quit my job (and by job im assuming a 9-5 thats over 40k with benefits and stuff) unless a few things were true.
1. I had enough money saved up so that when times were slow I could still get by. Anything can happen, you need "buffer money". 2. My "worst" weeks still paid my monthly debts, and allowed me money to eat =D 3. I had enough business set up such where I could start rockin right away. 4. Setting up my business would be fairly sure to be profitable and stable for times to come so that I could set up my own retirement funding and etc. In other words, somewhere in my overall business plan would have to be some way to make money 20 years in the future, or at least a idea of how it might be done. (even if it meant doing your own biz for a while but still developing skills that will be in demand where you could get a job if need be). Then again, I don't have a job... I freelance in a few areas fulltime, but if i had a 9-5 i'd probably think about that long and hard before I went on my own. |
Hell ya its tuff
Some people I'm sure had it easier then others but I'll be honest back when i had a 9-5 with benefits making around 40k a year and I first started in this biz it was very difficult to let go and take the plung. But If you want to go big you have to take risks and go for it. I had my ups and downs like many others, it takes alot of hours and dedication to make it but when you do its totally worth it. Just don't give up |

Back in 1988 I was making good $$$ in the day job and more than that at the weekends shooting babes and selling the stuff to mags and mail order. So took the plunge to be a full time pornographer.
From earning $$$$$$$$ a year I went down to earning $$$$$, missed the monthly paycheck:sadcrying Took me 2 years to build the business up to replace it, but it was worth it. |

I quit my day job back in May, couldn't be happier..

job ? :eek7

You should never quit your day job until you first work 9-5 on the day job then 6-2 on the net. *ONLY* when you find you need more time for porn and *ONLY* when you are making 2-3 times what you do on the day job should you be quitting.
I don't think I quit my dayjob until I was making 400.00-500.00 a day in porn |

When I quit my job a long time ago, I was SO scared that I didn't even want to tell my boss over the phone. I knew when he wasn't in the office so I just left him a voice mail msg :1orglaugh I didn't even want to come in to get my last check so they had to mail it to me. For some reason me and him never clicked or something so we never got along at all... I wish I had the courage to go out in a blaze of glory and cussed him out like you just did :( |
Piece of cake, No... Worth it, Yes...
Any choice made out of fear is the wrong choice in my book. However, courage without common sense can be a very destructive combo as well!:Graucho |

Good lord....you started full time AT 500.00 a day? I guess the sky really is the limit with internet marketing. I probably wouldn't know what to do with that kind of bling, hehe. |
it's a lot easier to leave a shitty job than a good paying job. I just quit my job last friday. But I was only making a little over $13 an hour. It doesn't take much to make more than that in porn.

Mom said there was money in cams, I took her word for it.
Thanks mom. <img src=http://www.acialloys.com/mom.jpg border="1"> |

That's a good piece of advise. If you aren't making 2 to 3 times what you are with your 9to5 then you really should not make the jump to full time!!! I would also suggest having 6 months worth of cash sitting aside that can pay for all your day to day expenses and whatever it is going to cost you to run your porn biz :) Beyond just the pure $$$'s, if your making less that 5 to 10 times your current income, then I would also make sure that I am making my bank in 2 or 3 different ways. I.E. not just off of SE traffic, or TGP's or AVS, I would make sure that I'm diversified so that if google fucks me for 90 days and I loose 1/2 of my SE traffic that I have it covered with AVS or TGP :) Also make sure and get yourself a few of things, a) a health insurance and life insurance policy that will cover you b) start a retirement fund immediately. And finally, don't freak out when you do finally make the break. I've seen guys when they make the break think that they are going to be making so much more $$'s now that they can do this full time, well that's not always how it goes, more time does not always mean more $$$'s in fact most see a reduction in productivity. Make sure that you don't allow all that extra free time to be eaten up on the boards either :) Good luck and I wish you well when you are ready to take the plunge !! Tim :Graucho |
I didn't HAVE a "day job" in the sense of a salary. I was doing freelance graphic design (for print) and marketing copywriting, and moving into this area was simply an extension of freelancing.

Just take an extended vacation, that's what I did. :)
