from another thread:
"From what i heard/ U.S. cellphone users will be able to use sms to pay for online purchases. Does anyone know what billing company provides the service?" the guy that posted it got no response but maybe in this thread someone will respond and share his knowledge or/and ideas on this issue... I know that recently also in the US ( after ASIA and Europe ) using SMS and mobiles in general is becoming more and more popular and people like to buy many different things though SMS, also porn ( at least in Europe ) , so why this method is still not popular in the States ??? pa |
what are you going on about?

see the love that is going on here?
thanks to my bumping a webmaster is helped AAAAAAAAAAAAMEN! |
Yeah it was me that posted that before.
SMS is used on cellphones for a billing process in countries other than the U.S. The U.S. should have this option by now, to use for websites. I beleive it is still considered a dialer, but there is no chargebacks. I havent had the time to look into it further, but the service should be provided by dialer companies. |

like $1 / $1.50.. Nothing fancy yet.. |
The USA is difficult to target because of the many different cell phone companies, but for sure it will be possibble for some companies, or at least in the near future.

Hi,
We're offering mobile SMS payment, our so called 'SMS Access'. SMS Access is a new payment mechanism that allows your website visitors out of UK, The Netherlands and Spain (Germany, Portugal, Belgium and Italy coming soon) to pay for your content with just 1 SMS message send. The system allows you to choose your payment options and how much to charge, for example 1 SMS at 1,50 pound rate, for 1 hour access or a monthly subscription, 30 days a SMS message, etc, fully automatic. A simple 3-step process walks your visitors through the payment process. No downloading of software and no personal details are required. SMS Access is 100% anonymous and it is so simple. Conversion rates are high. SMS Access is FREE to join. Take a look at our site: SMS Access. If you want more details, please mail or contact me by ICQ, 122342855. |

You're right. The maximum charge you can make for 1 SMS send is approx 1 to 2,5 USD in UK. But to charge this for 1 hour access could be very interesting. In our system we also have the possability to 'double charge': the first message we send the username and the second one the password. So we charge 5 USD within seconds and the custormers gets his content.. If you want we could send the end user every day an SMS for 7/30/365 days, automatically. So you're able to charge 2,50 USD a day..... Why SMS? Europeans do not love CCs and dialers. SMS payment is completely anonymous, no downloads and so simple. |
Proof on this statement please
"Europeans do not love CCs and dialers" |
1. no one likes dialers
2. cc are not so common in Europe but people in Europe love sending sms ( more often then people in the US ) and they use them often online to purchase new melodies for their mobiles and those sms are also not so cheap... so is someone is paying aboy 1 Euro only to get a Britney Spears song for his mobile, he will also pay with a sms to see "Britney Nude - 100 % real and uncenzored!" :-) or am I wrong ? |
If you are interested in that matter look here for a pretty popular European SMS payment system: http://www.paybox.co.uk ... you can actually use it to pay for things like taxis, shops and -- of course -- web services. And it's available in many European countries.
Nevertheless: CCs remain much more popular, even in Europe. But there are companies which are offering PayBox as part of their "black-box" payment system: http://www.quenta.at/de/payment/english/english.html Good luck! |

So does every message you send include removal instructions...?
No... so what you are saying is false. 1. most people dont understand they get billed for every fucking message you send them daily. 2. By the time they do (phonebill) how the fuck are they supposed to remember they have to send a text message to "1234 containing the text DSF NO" to cancel? You're a fucking thief.. |
Mobile sex is the FUTURE !
And most people KNOW what they are doing. So, there's nothing wrong. |

You made two statements and both are wrong.. how dumb can you get. |
I went to the Internext meeting about foreign traffic and SMS was recommended for foreign traffic.
sawebpartner - If I want users to pay $24.95 US for one month access to my website, how much of that would I get to keep (what are your charges)? Any other input about SMS? Kisses, Jade |
this has been brought up before.
one question - age verification? |

Jade, there are many restricions related to sms billing: one of them is that the maximum amount charged per session is approx $1 / $1.50... .50 goes to the telco company, .25 to your billing provider leaving you a shabby .75 average if you're lucky and got yourself a good deal. Pretty cool for (example) 10 minute webcam sessions but useless for billing larger amounts. There is an auto rebill option (so for example the user get billed daily for the 1.50 until he cancels) but that will be regulated soon because of major abuse issues. |
