Geo-Iping stats with NATS
Hey NATS guys,
Are you working on anything that allows the program owner, or even the affiliate for that matter, a way to view which country their traffic per site is coming from? Would be a good way to figure out why someones traffic may be converting worse than last week, like a pie graph showing percentages of countries. Or does this already exist and I haven't read about it. |
That would be an excellent feature. For both affiliates and program owners.
|
Even if they didn't do GeoIP stuff, they SHOULD have provided language info.. In fact I'm really surprised no program has that info available.. actually, not quite true.. SunnyDollars lets you know how much of your traffic was English.

This would be an awesome feature.

I'm considering in the meantime just setting up my apache access log and just tailing it myself to add a "module" to stats for affiliates to view a country percentages...Gonna be so cool to see those numbers, i love this shit.

google analytics may help

I would imagine if all that data is stored in the db all you would need to do is write your own script. Find a geoip db and you should be good to go.
|
i know in CCBill you can export a report transactions by country, but that only covers the sales,
|
Yeah, I'm surprised the guys at NATS or MPA3 haven't set this up already.
|
Spacash has this setup in their stats system , its really nice. go signup and try it out no ref code www.spacash.com
|
I can't speak for MPA..
But for NATS - The general idea of tracked country data isn't built into NATS currently. Even though NATS does have GeoIP options but it wasn't added in for tracking of clicks. My server/google stats do show the countries, and I can tell you first hand that the country flow of traffic has little to nothing to do with the signup ratios/sales for that day. Even more so when we can bill almost every country. Yes, a unique webmaster could have a flow of non-productive traffic, but it would be smarter to filter the traffic at the webmasters level rather than wondering what type of traffic is hitting the paysite. |
I'd like to see that feature on future updates of NATS.
:2 cents: |

country data is a very usefull tool. At spacash they show by country and every click by front page join page raw unique etc , this can help isolate problems lke language barriers |

I do look at it in a different way, as a webmaster who has ran paysites for 10 years and traffic.. I know for a fact that a standard setup paysite for the owners or webmasters will have zero advantages by knowing which country the "surfer" came from. The join, on the other hand is important country wise, so you can know which countries "you" should filter.. The same 10 top countries that could bill 10 years ago, still can today. Some affiliate programs use geoip to filter bad traffic off - such as china. Giving the webmaster a lower conversion ratios. I feel if you sent me china traffic then you have already lost out due to not correctly filtering your traffic first. Don't let the paysite tell you about your traffic, if you have to use us to find out you sent us china traffic - then you are losing mad money. |
Program owners: if I wrote a module to add this to your stats, how many of you would buy it? :)
